Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If you nurse, when are you pumping for storage?

I would like to start pumping and freezing for when I go back to work but I'm not sure when I should do it.  Do I feed LO then pump what is left from both breasts?  I want to make sure I have enough left for LO's next feeding.  Right now he goes about 1.5 to 2 hours between feedings.

  • I am just now starting this too, except my DD goes about 3 hour between feedings. You should pump in the morning after your morning feeding (prolactin levels are highest then). Your body will start to produce more at that time. You might not have a lot at first but keep doing it. Good luck!

  • Dd just started to sttn, so when I wake up, I'm super engorged...I usually feed her from one side, and then pump both sides...I usually get about 6 oz between the two sides.

  • I pump in the morning after my 8am feeding. I pump the remainder of what LO ddnt finish, and pump the other breast for 20 minutes. I get anywhere from 4-6 ozs this way :)

  • I pump about an hour after LO is finished with his first feeding of the day. I usually get about 4 oz.

  • I pump in the morning but have been so engorged that I have been pumping before my am feeding. I usually get about 6 oz and then still have enough to feed my LO. I think it just depends on your milk supply!! Good luck!

  • DD goes to bed around 930, I pump at 10pm & get 1-3oz between both breasts. I pump whatever side she doesn't eat from first thing in the morning typically between 7-8am & get 5-6oz. I freeze 1st pump & last pump of the day.

  • My LO only goes 1.5 to 2 hours in between feedings during the day too. I usually pump early in the morning between 7 amd 9am about 30 minutes after feeding him. At first I only got about an ounce or less from each breast, but now I can get 3-4 oz total.
