Successful transition from RNP to Crib

I just wanted to share that we had a successful transition from the RNP to the crib.  I read all the posts I could about this topic for months dreading the day...since we had success, thought I'd post to give encouragement to others worrying about this!

I purchased a Magic Sleep Suit and I think that is the secret to our success.  I put it down in the crib, lay DD in it, give her a paci, zip her up, and she is out within 2-3 minutes!  We began last Saturday so it has been almost a week and working great.  She doesn't sleep all the way straight through the night but she sleeps just as well as she did in the RNP if not better (she was starting to get uncomfortable in the RNP I think).

Good luck to all who need to transition!  :)

Re: Successful transition from RNP to Crib

  • Thank you for this we are breaking the swaddle now then working on the pnp

  • Right now our LO sleeps in RNP and I want her to sleep in her crib like a big girl but both me and my wife don't know if WE will be able to sleep while she is in the other room. Was this a concern of yours? If so, did you do anything that helped?
  • Awesome, we made the transition from our room to her room in the RNP about 2 months ago and we've just been doing that. We made the transition from RNP to the crib starting last night. She slept all night but woke up way earlier than she normally does, but thats okay. Tonight is night number 2 and so far so good *fingers crossed*. I didnt swaddle her tonight as they are all in the washer. I wanted to swaddle her in a blanket, but she gets out of that easily and I was too afraid to have a blanket in there with her if she got out of it.

Thank you for the inspiration! We've been putting LO in his room in the RNP to first get used to the room and next week we start the crib.

For some reason I didn't even think to put the RNP in the room then transition to the crib. Not a bad idea. I feel dumb.

  • We also did the RNP in his room and have been successfully in the crib every night unless he wakes up in the middle of the night, then I put him in the RNP for the remainder of the night. He is swaddled but won't stop kicking his feet so it keeps him up.

Yes I was worried about not being right there with her as we had the RNP up next to my side of the bed from day one.  I really wished we had purchased a video monitor but we did okay just listening to the regular monitor and then going in and checking on her periodically.  We checked on her a lot the first few days and then now that is slowly dwindling as we get more and more comfortable with the new arrangement.  So, not really anything that helped or advice I can give...just time.  :)  I will say that I miss her a lot though, but we all needed to get better sleep.  GL!

Have you tried or thought about trying the Magic Sleep Suit?  As soon as we lay DD on a flat surface, whether at an incline or not and whether swaddled or not, sh immediately pulls up her feet and/or throws her arms to her face which keeps her awake.  Once we tried the Magic Sleep Suit, it solved that problem!  She can still get her hands to her mouth but the suit keeps her from making it a fast/sharp movement.  She can still move her legs but the suit keeps her from pulling them all the way up which makes her roll around.  Just a thought if you haven't tried it already!

Glad that you also had a good transition!

I was worried about this and didn't want to move the girls to their own room, but honestly we sleep SO much better with them in their own room.  Their little noises used to keep me up a lot.  The first few nights were tough and I checked on them a lot, but they sleep great and we sleep better.  We also started using the Magic Sleep Suits this week to help break the swaddle and they're doing great with those.
