For those that teach signing to their LO's:
Maya picked up "All done" about a month ago but seems to use it for all done, more, and milk. I will admit that I'm a little forgetful with using "eat" and "more" consistently but whenever I nurse her I do the milk sign several times. Usually she just does "all done" and screams for me to whip it out.
It makes me think that she Isn't equating the "all done" sign with its meaning, but as more like something that means, "hey, I'm screaming here- give me what I want!"
Anyone else have a similar situation?
Re: odd signing situation
I wonder if maybe it is a step toward learning the specific signs. I've just been doing 3 signs: nurse, all done, and more. She's done all 3 of them a few times appropriately, but more often it seems like she's just trying different motions to communicate that she wants something. She was clearly hungry just before dinner the other day and she was waving her arms all around and doing "sort of" versions of the signs. My husband asked if she was going to steal 2nd, lol.
Anyway, I read in a book recently that babies with deaf parents "babble" in sign language by waving their hands in the specific area in front of their body where you sign. So I wonder if our babies are sort of doing the same thing.
That is awesome.
Yes, I have a blog and it's hilarious (except when it's not)
