TTC After a Loss

Can any of you relate??

I would love to shed about 10 pounds (who wouldn't, right?) While i consider myself a "medium" sized gal, I'm  definitely a little "fluffier"than usual right now. My question is, do any of you find it difficult to stay motivated to shed weight/get in better shape when you're trying to get KU? I know being KU is not an excuse to eat like crap, but man, my motivation SUCKS.

On a side note, I love ALL food. Healthy/Unhealthy/fried/organic/veggies/chocolate. You name it, I eat it! All that being said, I know I'd feel SO much better about myself if I could lose some lb's! Just really hard when I'm hoping to get KU....

Re: Can any of you relate??

  • I hate to be that guy, but I actually found trying to get KU the most motivating thing for me to get healthier.  I still have another 3-5 pounds I'd like to drop, so I haven't completely met my goal.  I personally think that if it's going to take a few months (or more) to get KU, might as well spend that time getting into great shape and eating healthy, so you can be that much more in shape and healthy, and on the path to making better choices, when you do get KU.

ETA: I feel the need to clarify that I did it very gradually-  over a year in fact.  In May of 2011 I was 35 pounds heavier.  I just tried to substitute junk snacks for fruit and veggies.  My only exercise is walking the dog, walking on the treadmill, and some weight lifting.   But you've heard all this before, blah blah.  I give you permission to roll your eyes at me.

I also ate six frosted cookies last night for dessert. I have my days!

  • I can ABSOLUTELY relate!  I'm in the 6' range and so I could easily be in the 150-160 range but I'm more in the 180 range.  I'd love to lose 20 lbs!  I have the motivation, but it's just getting myself to get up at 5:30 in the morning is my problem.  HUGS

  • I know, it really is irrational, and I probably sound like a big bum...ha! I think I just keep thinking, "But being KU will put the weight right back on..." Which I know everyone is different and "think how hard it will be to get it all off after."

I need to get on it.

  • While I find TTC a great motivator, I ad issues trying to lose weight while TTC if that makes sense. I feel I can do better by holding off on TTC and going TTA while getting in to shape.

I had the same feelings but usually when I hit the gym or do a strong workout I immediately think, "Sh!t. I hope I didn't just fluck myself."

  • I can definitely relate.  My motivation gets sucked out by DH's work schedule too.  He's my motivation.  He's always doing something, but 3 nights a week he works until 9pm, so I get lazy and don't do much working out.  Then the other nights, I feel like I need to cherish my time with him, and I don't want to run off to the gym.  We've tried working out together, but it never works.  He's a faster runner and I slow him down.  Same on the bike.

AND I love all food too.  I'm always cooking and sometimes that pushes exercise to the bottom of the list.

  • I can completely relate. I'd love to lose 10 pounds but I've been giving myself the "but what if I get KU" excuse every month since November. DH and I finally got our butts in gear this week; I'm hoping I can stay motivated to stick with it (and get KU in the middle of it! Wink)

    YES.

I feel exactly the same way. I have zero motivation to eat well. My TTC "diet" includes all food groups but mostly junk that I otherwise wouldn't allow myself to eat.

I (stupidly) rationalize like this: I wasn't ready to not be pregnant anymore, and I'm not ready to eat healthy again either. So there, self. Now eat a cookie.

  • Thanks for your thoughts, girls! Love both the motivation and to know that I'm not alone. I think ChloBub has the right idea...to get in gear and hope for a BFP along the way (although I'll still have to sneak in some Pioneer Woman sheet cake once in a while Wink)

    ~*~*~*~Everyone Welcome~*~*~*~
  • I swear I JUST wrote this post a few days ago.  Since our doc told us we didn't have to wait a cycle, I am thinking, no problem,  i'll be pg in a few weeks, it will be fine.  I'm about 5-7 lbs up from my happy weight.  I've been trying to make good choices and eat small meals, but I am not losing any weight (not gaining either so that's something).  I think if I don't get pg this cycle I will have more motivation.  Dieting is hard and to lose the 5-7 I need at least a month, maybe 6 weeks of hard core dieting, and thinking I could be pg in a little over 2 weeks doesn't give me ANY motivation to start the hard work.

Well, I think I just talked myself into my own motivation.  If I don't get pg this cycle I will start dieting.  Maybe this will work for you too?  Ultimately, I know it will be better to get pg at my happy weight.  Those last 5-7 were SOOOO hard for me to lose the first time, I really dread starting even 5 lbs up because it will make getting back down the extra pre-pg 5 lbs super hard.
