I am generally a very positive person, so I apologize in advance for the following vent.
I've decided that there is nothing quite like swim suit shopping to make be feel crappy about my body! I understand that pregnancy is miraculous and truly am beyond thankful to have experienced such a life-changing event. I know I should look at the changes to my body as reminders of my beautiful boy. But GEEZ! I just felt so gross last night, looking at my bathing suit clad body in the dressing room.
I was feeling pretty good as I set off to find a new suit. I'm basically back to pre-pregnancy weight, but I didn't take into account how very different my body is now. It took me at least 3 minutes to squeeze one suit over my newly enlarged hips. Once it was on, I was left with red marks and scratches across my thighs from pulling it up. And I don't even want to talk about my boobs (which used to be a full C and now hang limp and lifeless...)
Anyway, I bought one suit because the joy on Joey's face as he plays in the water outweighs the discomfort I feel baring my postpartum body. I think I'll be keeping shorts on as often as possible this summer.
Re: Swim Suit Shopping - UGH!
An attempt at swimsuit shopping about a month ago was the final push I needed to get my butt in gear with diet and exercise. I had lost all the baby weight and a few extra pounds...but yes...everything that remained redistributed itself in ways that just aren't nice.
And swimsuit fyi...there's a spanx brand that Target carries (can't remember the actual name). A workout to get them on, but overall, they don't look bad. However, if you have a larger chest...that could pose a problem. I ended up not buying one because I felt there was a risk of me popping out at any time. Not good when I'm looking for something to wear for taking Stella to the Y!
I've lost the weight but I have lots of loose skin and stretch marks (on my thighs too!) i was complaining last night and DH asked me whether I'd rather have my tight belly or my baby, and it was an easy answer.
When you see other moms with babies at the pool, you probably don't look at them and judge every little flaw, you look at their cute little one. They're a perfect shiny distraction
You go mama! It's all worth it
I second the Spanx suits at Target - I picket one up not long ago myself and I was very surprised at the difference it made compared to the other suits I had tried on.
