C-sections

STM- Bleeding Question

Just found out I have a breech baby and will like schedule a C for the end of July. I have heard that postpartum bleeding after  C-Section is much less than a vaginal birth because the doctors suction a lot of the residual blood out.  Does this seem to be the experience of most women?

Re: STM- Bleeding Question

  • I bled for almost 8 weeks. The bleeding is a natural healing process.

  • I bled pretty moderate for 3 weeks and then it stopped for a few days and then I had my period. It was heavy at first and then tapered off and then I started BC. FF start their periods sooner than BF or at least that's what I've been told. My best advice for you is to put everything you will be needing up high so you don't have to bend over that much (it will hurt sooo bad afterwards) and to get a bassinett or something to keep close by for all of those feedings. Make sure you get up and move around as soon as you are allowed and get someone to keep a record of all of your visitors and gifts because I was pretty loopy for the first day. Take some sort of pain meds even if you think you don't need them for the first 2 weeks becuase the pain will catch up with you. I hope everything goes great for you!!!

  • I am not sure that suctioning out blood has anything to do with how long you bleed. While I only bleed heavily for about 4 days after my c-section (both times), I did bleed on and off for a total of 6 weeks after I had DD. Right now at 3 weeks pp I am still spotting and at times a little more than spotting off and on. There is an open sore from the placenta that needs to heal and can cause increased bleeding if over doing it, just like in a vaginal delivery.
  • I have had a vaginal birth and a c-sect and the bleeding was about the same with both of them.

I had very little bleeding with my first c-section with my twins but I had alot of bleeding for 6-8 weeks with my second c-section so I'm not sure. I'm hoping for less this time.
