Eco-Friendly Family

Any other veggie/vegan moms here?

Hi!  I just wanted to see if anyone else was veggie/vegan and attempting to raise a veggie/vegan family?  Would there be any interest in starting up a weekly veggie related group on EFF?

Just to introduce myself: I'm Kat, I have been making the transition from lacto-ovo vegetarianism to being vegan over the last few months.  DH is a settled omni, DD is currently being raised lacto-ovo though I hope to lean more towards a vegan diet with her eventually.  I am pregnant with #2 who is due in July and this is my first vegan pregnancy!

Re: Any other veggie/vegan moms here?

  • I am and have been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for about 10 years.  I don't see myself going vegan ever, but I'll always be a vegetarian!  My DH eats meat but is SUPER great about eating vegetarian meals at home 99% of the time.  I'm raising DD to be a vegetarian like me.  I would be interested in some sort of group.

  • AttaKat, congrats on the pregnancy!

I'm not a mom, but I'm working hard at eating as little

meat as possible.  If that's somehow close enough I'd

be interested in a group of some sort.

  • My DH and I are vegetarian. We eat dairy and eggs and very occasionally eat wild salmon. We're definitely raising our kid to be vegetarian!

Good luck with your vegan pregnancy! Floridix liquid iron supplement helped keep me from becoming too anemic, FYI.

  • hi kat! my dh and i are lacto-ovo-pescatarians- dairy, eggs, and fish eaters. i think dh and i have decided to give organic meats to ds and let him decide how he wants to eat when he's old enough to understand. we're not positive on that, though.

a weekly check-in would be  nice! we could post recipes, etc! :)

  • Wow! Great to see others here!  Let's try for a weekly check-in on Monday morning if that works for everyone.  We can post recipes and discuss other eating/living related things! :)
  • I'm mostly vegetarian - but I eat cheese (and a few other dairy items) and fish/seafood (I'm not sure what it's called). I'd love to raise DD as a veggie, but DH isn't wanting me to.
  • Hi!  DH and I are also vegetarian.  We do eat eggs and cheese.  We plan to raise our baby vegetarian also.  I'm 24 weeks pregnant.  I'd be interested in a group also.  It's nice to see other vegetarian parents since I don't know many.

  • i'm also ovo-lacto vegetarian. I have added fish back into my diet 2x week to help with my milk supply. I actually went dairy-free for a few weeks trying to resolve some fussiness with DS, but it didn't seem to make a difference, so now i'm back on dairy, though only 1-2 servings a day. I have been vegetarian for about 12 years. DH is mostly vegetarian, but he eats poultry. We have been debating how to raise DS. I would love to keep him vegge too, but i think we're going to compromise. I will prepare vegge meals, but once he notices meat on Dad's plate and wants some, we will oblige in moderation.

i don't have tons of recipes that we use, but would love to do the check-in. It would be nice to have some inspiration to mix-up our meals a bit. I have tons of cookbooks, but just never really try them out. It seems so expensive to buy all the odd ingredients in a lot of vegge recipes. I'd especially like some economical recipe ideas like home-made 'burgers' and such, in order to cut down on the processed meat substitutes we buy.

  • a check in sounds great! I'm a lacto-ovo veggie and have been my whole life. DH is definitely an omnivore, although he probably eats much less meat than the average american, and we eat no meat in our house.  We plan on raising the baby as a vegetarian, and letting him decide after he gets old enough to make the decision.  I'd love to swap recipes etc!

  • I would also be interested in a group.  I have been a lacto- ovo- vegetarian for 17 years.  DH eats meat, but rarely at home.  We have decided to raise DS vegetarian and let him choose for himself when he gets old enough.  We're really lucky and DS is a fantastic eater- beans, tofu, just about anything....
  • Hi, I'm trying to go lacto-ovo vegetarian here and would be interested in a check in at least from the recipe aspect.  And hoping to raise DS lacto-ovo and on rare occasion fish since we all have a preference for fish when we can get it.  DH is still a meat eater but is supportive.  I haven't made the transition yet because of living with family.  They rarely have enough food at the dinner table (I think because they forget how much bfing demands), so right now I eat every calorie I can get.....
