Contractions immediately following orgasm

After I orgasm, up to 5 minutes later my stomach will get really really hard. I'm assuming it's a contraction of some sort, but it generally starts after my orgasm. Not during. I'm 26 weeks and I'm concerned about starting preterm labor this way.

Anybody else get this and talk to their doctor about it yet?

I have no advise, I just wanted to say that it seems like quite a rip-off to have something so enjoyable, followed by something so unenjoyable :S

My BHC are worse after a romp in the bed. They are also bad first thing in the morning. Keep a glass of water (or water bottle) around with you and it should help as well.

I believe, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, that orgasms actually are uterine contractions (along with being heaven!) so it's the same for non-pregnant women but you feel it more because you are pregnant. Orgasms are not dangerous or else doctors would add sex to the list of pregnancy no-nos.

I have not had this happen to me this pregnancy but when I was pregnant a few years ago, it did and freaked me out. I did a ton of googling and never came across anything that made me stop having pregnant orgasms!

Its a braxton hicks contraction. I get it after orgasm too... It goes away for me a few minutes after. Just try relaxing after till it goes away.

Yep, all of this. I get BHC during and after sex, regardless of whether or not I have an orgasm.

It's completely normal for your uterus to contract and harden for a little while after an orgasm. Nothing to worry about it, unless you happen to be one the rare people who has an actual problem with early pre-term labor (I know it seems like we hear about it all the time, but it really is rare when you compare to the number of women who don't have it as an issue...it's become one of those scare-tactic issues....women get terrified to live everyday life for fear of causing problems that they are highly unlikely to experience). Now, at the end of your pregnancy, when your body has the right mixture of hormones to signal that labor can begin because the baby is ready to come, it can help to kick start contractions (as can nipple stimulation). So, in short, keep having sex unless your doctor specifically tells you it's a no-no. It's good for your marriage, relaxation, etc... ;-)

Just to add, semen has hormones that can actually trigger early labor if you are at risk for that, so it's not just about the ute contracting.

Are you using condoms? DH and I were told by our Dr. to use condoms because I was having major contractions early on after sex.. we were told that sperm can have adverse effects on the cervix and cause strong contractions... other than that, we were told it's completley normal to have mild contractions after orgasm.

I also get Braxton-Hicks afterwards...I was planning on asking my doctor just to make sure it's okay, but I figured it's probably fine. A moderate amount of BH is normal anyway.

But it's nice to hear that other people experience this also!

I can't seem to get one anyone when DH and I have a little romp. Its very frustrating so I've been faking it...sad but true. I don't have to heart to tell him!

I'm thinking its BH contractions...drink more water. It's a lot of blood flow to that area!

This exactly.. My stomach tightens up really hard after any "fun" time and also is hard first thing in the morning when I wake up. I'd say as long as it doesn't keep happening every 10 mins or something and goes away shortly after it starts, its not really worth worrying about..

This exactly. Also, to the poster who said semen can trigger labor, I wish! Tried to induce with DD, making DH do it for a week straight in my last pregnancy, and it did nothing

An orgasm contracts your uterus whether you are pregnant or not. It is usually uncomfortable for me after sex, but my husband rubs my lower back for a few minutes and it helps immensely. It's not something I worry about.

I also get it, and it's really sore cramping - has put me off orgasming! And it's got nothing to do with sperm - I usually do a test run by myself to see if I'm okay to have sex. I'm loving how easy it is to orgasm these days, but not loving the after shocks so much. :-(

I have the exact same issue. I asked my doctor she said that its completely normal. I agree with the PP that said it sucks to hurt for 5 mins or so after something so enjoyable lol
