XP: So mad at my daycare right now

I just found out today that the woman who takes care of DD's class puts artificial sweetener on her food. I always wondered why DD would eat all of her food at daycare and not at home. I make all of DD's food and all of her snacks are organic. We are an artificial free home due to severe food allergies. DH and I both have allergies. This is part of the reason I make all DD's food and make sure her snacks are healthy and organic. I am severely allergic to the pesticides they put on fruit and veggies.

I am going to have a serious talk with the director tomorrow. I have been so upset the past month and a half because I have been having trouble getting DD to sleep. She has always been a great sleeper and I have been so frustrated and sleep deprived. I feel like we have been taking steps backwards and even put the pack and play back in our bedroom because we are so exhausted that by the time we get her to sleep we don't want to move her to her room. She is awake as we speak and hasn't been falling asleep until almost 11. I have to get up at 5am to start my day. I am thinking this change in sleep is because of all the artificial sugar she is getting at daycare. The woman who watches her on Wednesday's slipped and told me her normal teacher "has tricks to get her to eat" I asked what those were and she told me artificial sweetener!

WWYD? Should I have a talk with the director or would you find a new daycare?

Say what??? I would approach the teacher who's adding the sweetener directly and nip this in the bud!

My MIL fed my LO diet soda when she was ~5 months old and I am still pissed about it. And that was just once! (Well, that I know of, haha.)

This is NOT ok.

Did she actually show you want she used? To me, if this is true, this is totally something this woman could lose her job for and could cause this daycare center to be reported to the state.

Yes, talk to the director. But, I feel like there is more to this story than you may know or are saying...

As far as the sleeplessness, I doubt it is the sweetener. Your LO is probably going through a sleep regression. Totally common at her age. But, the sweetener is still an issue.

Oh my... I would go straight to her boss and request a meeting with you, the manager/ director of the center, and the teacher. If they do not provide acceptable recourse and punishment of the teacher, I would tell them you are going elsewhere. Unbelieveable!

If anything like this ever happens again, you need to say, "please show me what you are talking about" and then march your fanny directly to the director. This is so screwed up that I would say this is MUD if you didn't have so many posts.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this.

Honestly. That is awful! I would seriously consider finding a new daycare unless the director is extremely apologetic and assured me that the issue would be addressed with the individual. If the director treats it as anything other than a very serious offense, I'd change daycare providers.

This doesn't make any sense to me at all. What kinds of food was she putting artificial sweetner on?

Is this an in-home or center? This would be a deal breaker for me.

OMG! New daycare stat! I don't get worked about much but that would have me seething.

I am by no means the food police and I let LO have sugar in moderation. Hell, once in awhile I brown sugar her green beans to get her to eat when she's on a I hate veggie streak. However, artificial sweetener and daily...no...just no.

I'm sad for you that it's a common occurrence and she has ingested so much of it. Ick.

I'd be off on a tirade to anyone I can get my hands on.

ETA: There has to be more to this story the more I think about it. Give us the update when you can...I can't imagine anyone in their right mind would do such a thing. I've heard/read/seen with my own eyes some strang sh*t at daycare..but this is all around odd.

I don't know... I doubt there's much more to the story. I'm guessing she wasn't eating much, so the lady thought if she put sweetener on it she'd like it better, which is a totally insane thought. I don't know why anyone would think that was alright. She should be fired. If she isn't, and there's any chance she'd near your DD at all, I'd switch. Though, maybe you should just go ahead and switch since there was another worker who knew about it and didn't seem to see anything wrong with it.
