Taking Diaper Off

Has anyone's LO started taking their diaper off during nap or night?

UGH, DD started doing this within the last week.  Just another toddler milestone!

Re: Taking Diaper Off

  • She only does it with sposies. I try to always have pants (rarely a onesie) on but sometimes she gets bored and reaches in there. Worst case, she detaches her diaper BUT at least it gets held up by the pants and is still there to contain her waste lol.

She takes the pants & diaper off.  I think I'm going to try putting a onesie on or a cloth diaper with snaps.  I don't CD but I have some from a time when I thought I wanted to.

  • Yep. She's been doing it for a few months now. Twice she has decided to play with her poo. I have to be VERY quick to get her when she wakes from naps/sleep. She is not allowed to sleep without pants on. Onesies/skirts with bloomers don't do the trick anymore because she'll reach into the crotch area and pull stuff out. So friggen nasty.

How about footed PJs? Or potty training? It's not that bad.

Sounds like my DD is pretty nice about this or she hasn't gotten to that stage yet?? lol We are potty training her too so I hope we never get to that stage. She always poops in the potty so no issues there.

Thankfully it's not poop like SweetH has to deal with - YUCK!  And, so far it's come off after the nap so she rarely pees without the diaper on.

I don't know if I'm ready for potty training!  How is it going?  Might be worth a shot.

Ugh! This milestone sounds terrible!! I'm so sorry for you!

So far, DD hasn't started this. During diaper changes she reaches down and grabs what she can (I need to be a ninja wiper) and then she keeps unfastening the new diaper. She seems to forget about it once she's off the changing table though. I really hope she doesn't reach that milestone. Maybe try duct tape? ;)

Halfmoon - does your DD use the potty the whole day at day care too?

Yes, daycare started it, then told me that I should enforce at least during the day at home. We started doing it 35 mins after every meal/ drink, and  also did it as soon as she woke up in the morning. Now she heads to the potty when she wants to go, so I just try to get it out really fast, undress her and have her go. I am trying to prolong the process bc we are heading to England this Summer and I am not sure how that will work lol. We plan to get the redeye flight but we haven't purchased the tix yet. She doesn't really go at nights bc we stop all liquids an hour before bed. Daycare guarantees to be PTed by 2 years old otherwise, they will provide all the diapering supplies... so they really get working. When I went to pick her up yesterday, she was on the potty doing her #2 so I gladly waited haha. She is actually the only non PTed in the class, but she's the youngest.

  • Wow, Halfmoom I'm impressed. Although I have heard girls are earlier to train than boys...I wonder if that's true. We have a potty but it's still in the box. Maybe I will take it out after this discussion.

As for taking the diaper off, my LO is like Redzee's - he'll try when he's on the changing table but he's almost always in shorts/pants or a onesie. And most nights/naps he sleeps in a sleepsack so we haven't experienced this....yet.

I don't know about boys but I have heard that. I guess I was slightly jealous when I saw my friend's 19 month old holding his pants to go...I was like DD doesn't do that yet! lol So I don't know how true it is! I have also heard you can ruin them by doing it too early but I don't know about that. Everyone in my family gets PTed by 2 years, I was waiting for her to become more vocal and now she is, so to me that was a good starting point.

  • Abigail has tried before, but I told her no, fixed it, and she hasn't tried again.
She is either a really good listener or uninterested!!

WOW, that's a pretty sweet deal with daycare.  I'm assuming she is still in a diaper or do you use pull-ups?

  • E has taken her diaper off once and I think it surprised her because she brought it over to me for me to put back on. I'm really not looking forward to her figuring out there's poop in there to play with Ick!

  • Snaps on our CDs are saving us right now. He can take off his velcro cloth diapers easy peasy. I don't look forward to him figuring out the snaps.

  • Yes!  DD wears disposables just for nighttime... and she can take those off now.  I've yet to see her unsnap her Fuzzibunz though.

Funny thing is - she says "EWW!" every time I change her diaper now.  Oh... and yesterday I let her run around diaper free to air-dry for a few minutes.  Heard "EWW!" in the other room, and was afraid to look!  Yup - poop running down her legs, plus she stepped in it!  Lol!  Ewww, indeed!

Ewww is right!  Last couple of days I've just been putting a pocket diaper w/out inserts over her disposable and haven't had issues!  YEAH!

They use only pull ups at DC but DH doesn't like them so we don't really use them at home. If she does #2, they are a PITA (messy) to clean bc you have to take them off completely, and then clean, where as if you have a diaper, you can just raise her bum while the diaper remains under (you get what I am saying right?). We have cloth trainers but I haven't used them because I am not sure of the absorbencies yet. Diapers are fine by me for now.
