Wedge

Hoping our little one doesn't have any Brady's so we can bring him home on Saturday or Sunday. We were told to get a wedge for him to sleep on to keep his reflux in check. Anyone use a wedge or know of other alternatives. Just curious to see what our options are?  Thanks.

Re: Wedge

  • we still use a wedge sometimes!  DS had issues with reflux and brady's as well, so before discharge I bought a wedge...I ended up getting the boppy wedge that you can put on top of the boppy.  I tried using the whole pillow folded (it is really two wedges and can be folded into one larger wedge) but the folded version was too large so I took one side out and put it under the bassinet mattress.

...However...DS ended up sleeping in his bouncy seat for a long time due to the reflux.  He did all kinds of grunting but it ended up working better than a raised mattress.

A lot of mom's on here use(d) the Rock-n-Play and I truely wish I had gotten one.  The incline is (from what I have read) just about perfect for a preemie dealing with both reflux and brady's.  This may be a better investment than just a werdge to put under your baby's mattress.

We've been using a Rock n Play (RNP) and it's been fabulous.  It really helps with Adalyn's reflux and is really portable.

  • Major reflux issues here and the Rock n Play was our life saver.  She wouldnt sleep anywhere until we got it. Once she grew out of it we transitioned her to a mini-arms reach in our room and I would use a rolled blanket under one side to elevate her head a bit and when she got in her crib I used a folded towel under one side for a while. Now its flat. I would seriously recommend a Rock n Play if you can get one - it makes a HUGE difference

  • We just put some heavy blankets under the head of their mattresses.  Works well!

  • we raised one side of the PnP up then their cribs so that they were at on an incline, and i used rolled up towels under the sheet to keep them in place. I never wanted to use a Rock N Play because I've read SO many reviews and comments from Pedis about babies getting flat heads from them! My DS has laryngomalacia and he slept a lot in his bouncy seat by my bedside for his first few months because of really heavy/noisy breathing and snoring. But they grew out of their reflux and by the time they could roll around well they were fine sleeping flat.
