If you have toys in the crib is it helpful or not? My MIL keeps telling me to put toys in J's crib so that he will play awhile before me having to go get him. I'm thinking that he'll just throw them out and then be upset. So which is it?
Dd has a stuffed dog, bear lovey and blanket in her crib. Usually she plays with them at the beginning and end of naps. Occasionally she will throw them out and get upset but more often than not they help.
Ash has 2 bears, a Smurf, a movie and a fisher prices music toy. He definitely plays with them and turns the music on and dances. The music is soothing for him at bedtime. If he doesn't fall asleep right away he will get up and turn the music back on and then lay back down.
I leave books in the crib (in the corners), and she has two loveys. In the mornings a lot of times she will sit and flip through the books for 10-15 minutes, so it does give me a little extra time.

This...we also have a mirror that has a little spinning ball on it that he plays with when he wakes up. Occasionally he throws them out ,but as pp said, it is more helpful than not.
A has her little blankie and a stuffed dog. Sometimes she'll sit happily playing in her crib for 20-30 minutes after waking. I have no idea what she's playing with but she seems to entertain herself with what she's got!
DS has a monkey, a mirror, lovey, and tag blanket. He usually does not play with them, but every now and then he does. Those mornings I love to listen to him talking to whatever it is that he is playing with. Every now and then he throws them out, but not very often.
C has a lovey, a small stuffed rabbit, and his sleep sheep in his crib. He keeps them in there with him. On the occasion I use his crib as a confinement area and not sleep, I'll throw a couple toys in. He ALWAYS throws them out.
When DD wakes up in the morning I give her a bottle in bed still (bad momma, I know) and I put in a bunch of toys. She either falls back to sleep drinking the bottle or is in a good mood after her bottle and plays with whatever's there for awhile. Gives me some extra rest time!

Yep...she has a variety in the crib. It usually keeps her entertained for a at least a little bit. She has yet to purposely throw one out of the crib...but she does have a hard rattle that she will bang on the rails.

We have a lovie and a few stuffed animals. Doesn't entertain him a lick. I try changing things out to see if he's bored and it's like he doesn't even know they're there. Maybe I'll put some books in there, like a few PPs mentioned. I've also got to replace the batteries in his Dance & Learn puppy to put that in there. I think he needs something that makes noise and I don't want to put any hard toys in there because he'll bang them on the crib!
DD has toys in her crib. A couple stuffed animals and a soft doll. She will wake up in the morning and I can hear her talking to them. She doesn't throw them out very often. I find that they do help in the morning. She has the Fisher Price glow seahorse that plays music in her crib. Often in the mornings or later at night I hear her wake up and she turns it on and falls back asleep to the music.
At nap time, he has 1 stuffed animal/pillow thingy. Nothing at bedtime. But he will wake up in the morning and usually give me anywhere from 10-30 minutes before I go get him. He pushes the buttons on his mobile and talks to himself.
