I think it's amazing we have so many moms expecting twins. My question is how many of you are expecting through IVF and how many are you aren't?
My friends that have done IVF have all had multiples. I'm curious what the percentage is of non-IVF twins.
Re: Question to all of you expecting twins...
My twins are non-IVF. They are fraternal. I didn't realize that I had multiples in my family tree until after my twins were born. My dad had cousins who were a set of triplets (my grandfather's sister had triplets). One of my grandparents also has an aunt who lost a set of twins due to being thrown from a horse.
As of right now I don't know if I am carrying multiples. If I am they are non-IVF too.

We had an IUI cycle with a medication, Clomid, that can make you ovulate more than one egg, so it is most likely due to that. This was our fourth time and we would have moved on to IVF if I hadn't gotten pregnant. For this procedure the dr. told us the chances of getting pregnant with twins were 1 in 200. He was shocked that it was twins too!
But it is also interesting that there are twins on my mother's side of the family...

Identical twins (come from one egg that splits) are spontaneous and are not hereditary.
Fraternal twins (when they come from two separate eggs) are only hereditary through the mothers side since the mother has to hyper ovulate (release more than one egg). Father's genetics and heredity have nothing to do with whether the mother releases more than one egg.
Our twins are non IVF/non IF medication. We are pretty sure they are identical at this point in time - but we'll know more after our dating u/s and NT scan at the end of the month.
There are absolutely no twins that run on my side of the family at all, and the only twins on DH's side of the family is from his Great-Grandpa.

I knew there was a possibility of twins but I never really entertained the possibility!
