Cracked Nips

There should be a club with rewards for those of us who have endured this problem! I just wanted to let you know what I did that helped. Beck has trouble latching on one side which has resulted in a very painful crack. I got a medela nipple shield to put on it and it has helped tremendously! It hurts for a second when he first latches but then each time it has gotten better and better. It has given my nipple a chance to start healing. Once it does I am going to start taking the shield off about half way through his feed so he can get used to me again. I don't need one on the right side so I don't think he will get confused when I go back to just me. Hope you are all doing well BFing!

    I was a little scabby the first week and I did find that expressing BM on them did help along with Lansinoh and soothing gel pads for the pain.  Glad you are better now!

    my nips have never cracked but I had both pretty scabbed and my right one had a pretty bad blister.  I called my LC and she told me to make a cream.  Lotrimine, neosporin, and hydrocortizone, together in equal amounts and apply after each nursing season.  It healed my scabbed nips pretty quickly.  I still have some pain on my right side but nothing like 3 days ago.  To me nursing is much harder than labor and delivery.  ;)

    Palmer's Nipple Butter FTW! It's helped a lot, and it's safe for baby. It helped with latching since Henry could immediately taste something. PS, once your milk is in, try squirting some in his mouth before he latches. LO is tongue tied, and we had some early trouble with latching due to it.

    Oh man I feel everyone's pain! LO is almost 3 weeks and I still have a HOLE (yes it seriously looks like a hole in my nipple haha) that will not heal! I bought a nipple shield but I got the wrong size.. so it gags him...blah! So for now I am just nursing through the pain

    LO decided to become a cluster feeder at day 6 and she hasn't let down, so needless to say I DID crack and bleed, I've got a cut that's still healing.  Gel pads are amazing, put them in the freezer for after a feed, and also the one thing that's helped me so much more than Lanisoh or any of the other creams/gels is Earth Mama Angel Babys Nipple Butter.  It doesn't pull and sort of melts into your skin.

    Yes! This is me! My right nipple legit has a hole in it too. And I struggled with using the nipple shield they gave me at the hospital so maybe it was the wrong size. If my pain doesn't improve soon I might try to get another one. Just posted a long rant about my BFing troubles here: https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/66584279.aspx
