C-sections

C- section support belt

Anyone have experience using a support belt/abdominal binder after their c-section? Did you find it beneficial... if so- which one did you buy? I asked my Dr. and she said that the hospital doesnt supply one so I will need to purchase one ahead of time if I choose to use one. I just wanted to hear from others experience before I decided whether or not it was worth it. TIA!

Re: C- section support belt

  • I liked mine, but it was hospital provided so I'm not sure on brand/cost. It was just a thick white belt that wrapped around with velcro. It helped tons while I was so sore in the hospital. I used OT after when I'd be more active for the support. Like if we went out to take her to the Dr and I knew id be walking more. They say using it for too long can weaken your muscles because the binder is doing the work for them. I used it when i felt like I needed the extra support. I found it helpful.

This exactly.  I was hoping it would help me appear less pregnant (I look like I am a good 4-5 months along, still, ugh) but it hasn't done that at all.  However I was more comfortable because it did hold things in a bit.

  • I bought a support belt from Babies R Us (my hospital provided one while I was there but I couldn't take it home). I used it for comfort for about a week.

  • I used the one the hospital provided for the first few days / week or two.  I really would recommend something, it doesn't have be expensive.  Mine just looked like a large piece of elastic held together with velcro.  I had the oddest sensation when I stood up without it on the first few days.  I felt like my insides were going to fall out, so having that support was a must for me.

  • I used a belly bandit and I really liked it. I will be using it again this time around. If you get the belly bandit the bamboo one is recommended for c/s, something about the material being antimicrobial. HTH
  • I'm wearing mine now. I was up doing housework. I try to wear it for a couple hours a day while I'm up and busy. I was told it would help bring my muscles back together if worn early on but that I shouldn't wear it for too long because they can get weak. My hospital didn't provide it immediately but when I requested it they ordered one from supply for me. Very happy I got it. It's about 12 inches wide and is elastic all the way around with a sturdier support pannel in the front. It velcrows shut. I cut two inches into the velcro to get the tightness on top and the tightness on bottom right. The ride home from our hospital was over an hour and I wear it if I have to be in the car or expect to be walking a lot. It really helps in the car with support and pain on any bumps and it makes me feel a little bit more protected from the seat belt.

This! I loved my Belly Bandit and will be using again this time around. It was nice to have extra support and it did help my uterus go down pretty quickly.

This exactly.  I loved my belly bandit and even bought 2 sizes.  One for right when I was out of the hospital and a smaller one that I used a 2 weeks PP after a lot of the swelling went down.  Loved the bamboo one too.  Great investment.

  • Hospital gave me one and it just had velcro. AND YES YOU NEED IT. I used it for a good week, and it made all the difference.
