Toddler projects!

My summer vacation with LO starts next week (teacher) and I'm so excited! I've been looking at different projects we can do during the day and found one I really like but have some questions about. Has anyone ever done the Greek yogurt finger painting? Does it need to be thrown out quickly? I want to save my little boy's first masterpiece, but am afraid that dried yogurt might start to go bad and smell, or attract bugs our something. Thoughts? Experiences? Thanks!

Also, would anyone be interested in a weekly activity post where we talk about a new activity we're trying with LO? I think it might give us all some great ideas.

Re: Toddler projects!

  • Try putting a piece of cardstock with a few paint blobs into a sandwitch bag. Then close it and have LO play with it. It's not the same as finger painting, but it's mess free. I stole the idea from a bumpie's blog. She actually cut the cardstock into leaf shapes and made a wreath.

I also found this book on Amazon that I want to look for at the library:

  • Carter did pudding paint at daycare a couple months ago, and it's still hanging up.  I don't know if it will last "forever".  Maybe if you laminate it?

I'm all for sharing good ideas if anyone has them.  I plan on making the most of my summer with him.

  • I saw on pinterest diy finger paints: flour + water + food coloring. Safe if eaten. Its in my summer bucket list.
  • I like the activity post idea!

We've done finger paint with purees and I just took a picture of it to "preserve" it.  This week I bought her Crayola finger paint that was nontoxic to make Father's Day gifts.  I made a card for DH with her handprints on it and I am going to do a butt print on the inside.  The outside will say "Hands down..." and the inside will say "and bottoms up, you are the best dad!"  For her grandfathers, who are fishermen, I let her finger paint 2 canvas's blue.  After it dried I did her handprint in the middle and drew on it to make a handprint fish.  Then I wrote a little poem about him teaching her to fish someday.  I got the idea for the handprint fish here: https://funhandprintart.blogspot.com/2010/08/handprint-fish-canvas-painting.html

If you google "homemade finger paint" there are some recipes out there that are edible but would probably last longer than pudding.

Oooh, I love the weekly post idea!!  I've been searching for projects, too.  I found a bunch of websites on Pinterest full of ideas, so now I need to spend some time narrowing down what to try!

Here are a few I found:

Sorry, I'm no help on the finger painting idea, but I love the thought of trying it in a plastic bag.  I'm adding that to my list!!

  • I am definitely interested! I SAH with DD and am always looking for ideas of neat things to do with her.

It would be cool if we also post pictures of any activities that we try.

Me, too!  I am super crafty when I have time and DS loves to play with paper while I scrapbook or make cards, so I am looking forward to spending time crafting with him this summer.
