Thanksgiving Travel with LO

We are planning on flying to FL for thanksgiving (approx 2 hr flight) and are trying to figure out if we should purchase a ticket for LO. She'll be about 10 months old and not sure if it will be worth it (Child flight same as adult fare SW Air). Have you all travelled with a LO? Would you get a seat?

Re: Thanksgiving Travel with LO

  • for a two hour flight, I probably wouldn't get the seat. esp. for Thanksgiving travel when it's likely to be expensive. if money is no object, get the seat.

most of the time, we do get a seat for LO(s) because it's really nice to have the extra space and to be sure we're not in a row with anyone else. we have also flown with DS1 as a lap child a few times on short flights and it's not that big of a deal.

  • We haven't flown anywhere with DD yet, but at 10 months I would not be getting an extra seat for her....

  • We have flown a lot with LO. Yesterday was her most "active" flight that she has had because she is starting to get more restless, but, even considering that, I wouldn't buy her a ticket, especially for a short two hour flight.

  • We traveled with my first son when he was almost 11 months old and it was a 2-1/2 hour flight.   We did not purchase a ticket for him and he did well sitting on our laps.  He slept most of the way.

  • I say no.  At that age, you can keep DD on your lap.  Plus it's so expensive to buy an extra seat for a child.  I'm a cheapscape though, and statistically less people die on airplanes than in cars, so I don't see it as a safety concern.  Just make sure you and whoever you're flying with get seats next to each other so you can pass off DD if you need to.

  • We traveled with DS when he was 12.5 months old and did not buy him a seat.  I would do the same again, I don't think it was needed at all.
