Babies: 6 - 9 Months

two questions: carseat&poop

1: my DD is out growing her car seat. Her feet dangle way off the edge and when in the car her legs are squished up and her head is almost going over the top. Is there like a in between car seat or different size infant ones? I have read about turning her around but I really dont like the idea of that. some sights say its a weight limit and others say not until 1yr. either way I don't really want to do that. So what do you suggest?

2: DD is constipated. she hasn't really been eating much solids lately: as in jar foods. she still chows down her puffs and Cheerios. I have some stuff for colicky babies. Doesn't really seam to work. She is pooping but only little squirts here and there and its not solid turds. She seems to be bothered by it mostly while drinking her bottle. Any suggestions on what I can do?

TIA

  • The next seat you move to is a convertible.  Your daughter absolutely needs to remain rear facing.  The law is 1 year AND 20 pounds (they have to meet both) but the newest guidelines are to keep them rear facing until at least 2, but best for as long as the car seat allows.  Look for a car seat with the highest rear facing height and weight limits.  Rear facing is far far safer than forward facing.  Google "internal decapitation" for more information on why rear facing is safer.

  • Ditto elmoali and LalaMama on the RFing convertible seat. DD1 is 27 months and still comfortably RFing, and we plan to keep her that way until as close to her 3rd birthday as possible.

For the constipation, try feeding her "p" foods - pears, peaches, pumpkin, prunes - and steer clear of bananas until the problem clears up.

    Mangos work wonders for constipation.

I absolutely agree with all this but it's not actually a federal law - it depends on the state you live in (I have gotten blasted for saying it's the law to be rear-facing to 1).  But, it's definitely strongly recommended to keep them rear-facing until at LEAST 2. It sounds like your daughter is too big for the infant seat and should be in a convertible ASAP.

This is a good site with lots of information on carseats: https://www.healthychildren.org/English/safety-prevention/on-the-go/Pages/Car-Safety-Seats-Information-for-Families.aspx
