I just wanted to thank all those who responded to my post below. This is by far the scariest time of my life and hearing others stoies has helped me.
I requested frequent (every 2 week cervical checks) from 10 weeks on. My cervix started t a 5 and at 16 weeks it was4, still good. At my 18 week appointment I was horrified to see it had already opened and was funneling. I feel that my IC is the result of 2 surgriesto remove a uterine septum before we got pregnant. Any manipulation of the cervix can weaken it apparently. I thinkmost women have no problems though. I think the extra weight of twins didn't help me either. So, I didn't mean to scare anyone.
I feel lucky that this happened before 20 weeks, otherwise itwouldhave been too late to place the cerclage. Please think good thoughts for my sweet babies.

Re: Emergency cerclage follow up
I'll be thinking of you...I had an emergency cerclage at 21w6d and was hospitalized for 3 weeks, then on BR until my babies came at 30 weeks...I have an incompetent cervix, when I went in I was dialted 4 cm, 1 more cm and they would not have been able to do a thing. I know it is scary, but there are TONS of success stories out there. Keep us posted!
PS...are you going on permanent bed rest now? IF so, get some great movies, books,a nd line up your friends and family for visits now...that helps pass the time, I promise!
I hope the cerclage works for you. I also think that my IC was a result of my septum surgery and twins. I also felt like I had two babies on one side of my uterus since I was originally PG with triplets. I never ever felt movement on the left side - it always stopped in the middle.
Anyways, I didn't get a chance to respond to your first post but I was hospitalized at 24 1/2 wks for a funneled cervix. They gave me the steroid shots and I was on bedrest for two weeks before they had to deliver my babies because my daughter's bag was in the birth canal.
Anyways, after a long time in the NICU my babies are thriving. They've been doing great. Granted we aren't out of the woods yet but so far everything has been OK.
I pray that everything will be great for you and you can get very far in your pregnancy.
Gymrat,
Thank you so much for sharing your story. I remember when I first found out about my septum, you were really helpful and referred me to the yahoo MA group which was a godsend!
your babies arelittle troopers! They are perfect.
Were you too late to get a cerclage? Do you feel that would have helped? In future pregnancies do you plan to get a preventative cerclage?
Thank you!
Jenny
