Urgent Help!

I had a bad day but all day long I have felt like somone is sitting on my chest. I went to the doc last week and they said if my heart palpatations get worse I needed to see a cardiologist. I went to the drug store and spoke to the pharmacist to see if there was a miracle drug. He gave me cough syrup hoping there was just flem in there creating blockage. He said if it was not better in one hr to go to the ER. It woudl be either pneumonia or something wrong with my heart. Have any of you had this problem?

HELP! I am a fat ass who broke the tub this am and now cant breathe...

Re: Urgent Help!

  • Honestly? If you're already prone to heart palpitations I would go to the ER and get it checked out. better to go and have it be nothing.

  • Damn! You are having a bad day. So sorry to hear it. I know it can feel like when it rains, it pours.

At any rate, no reason to take any chances. That's what ERs are here for, and insurance.

  • I agree either go to an urgent care walkin clinic or go in to the ER. Good luck and keep us updated!
  • ER please, not Urgent Care. They are not there to take on pregnant heart issues...

  • Let me get this straight -

You are having chest pressure, and have already been told by your doctor that you should see a cardiologist...so you go the the drug store and ask a PHARMACIST for advice?!  And since when does cough syrup help with chest pressure and palpitations?

I'm gonna go ahead and say that if there is any question about chest pain/pressure/heart probs you need to go the ER and see a real doctor.  Why would you want to take a chance?

Agreed. Having worked with heart patients before, if that's the issue, you don't want to waste time at Urgent Care.?

Everybody has heart palpitations. In pregnancy though, they're usually more noticeable and pronounced. Its just that some people notice them and some people don't. I've been having them my whole pregnancy. In fact, I wonder if there's something else that was worrying your doctor because my doctor was not worried at all about palpitations. Do you have a history of heart problems?

Anyways, I think it's very likely that the chest pains are being caused by anxiety. Don't forget that anxiety attacks and panic attacks cause REAL symptoms. They're not dangerous, but they are noticeable.

If going to the doctor makes you feel safer, then I advise going. However, if it's an anxiety problem you're having and not a medical one than going to the hospital repeatedly will make it worse. So ask all of your questions while you're there and remember that serious problems are noticeable, it won't just sneak up on you. A heart attack causes very obvious symptoms and you will know something is wrong. It is not just chest pain.

Have you considered whether it is a lung problem as well? I honestly think it's very unlikely for it to be a heart problem.

  • it is easier to sit in pain at times than to fight with dh over medical bills. i am having one of the worst days.

  • I may be too late on this, but wanted to let you know that I went through the same thing. I normally get palpatations, and they got worse (as well as the pressure in my chest) when I was right around where you are. In most cases, this is totally normal because your body is pumping more blood during pregnancy.

I ended up being reffered to a cardiologist by my OB, mostly for my peace of mind. I was happy to go because I had never had my heart checked that I had always wondered if my palpatations were normal. During part of my pregnancy, I was getting them up to 5 times a day for an hour or so at a time, by the way.

Everything checked out perfectly fine. I owed money that my insurance didn't pay for all of the testing, heart ultrasound, etc., but it was worth it to feel better. My guess is that you are perfectly fine, but I would make an appointment so that you can quit stressing about. As I'm sure you know, that just makes it worse. :) I do not think that this is something to go to the emergency room for, but do what you need to do to feel better. Good luck! :)

  • Oh, and in my opinion, that pharmacist does NOT know what they are talking about -  I can't believe he told you to go to the ER. I would listen to your doctor and see a cardiogist  - just my opinion!!
