I finally called the Doctor and asked him about deli meat and I was told it is perfectly fine to eat it. Yay! I went out and go me a big ol' turkey sandwich! I feel like a bit of a rebel. Here's hoping for no dreaded listeria!
I had a GIANT BLT today too!! and it tasted so GREAT!!

Love subway- however turkey (which i used to love) makes me sick to my stomach bc I read online about the listeria thing- so I heated it up til my first appt and now I hate it. BUT my dr. okayed cold meats too- so back to ham and cheese!
Sigh, I've missed my cold cut combo at Subway. I haven't met with my MW yet so I'm not sure what their stance on it is... so until then, no cold cold cuts for me.

I'm so jealous! I love sandwiches and especially paninis. I could eat a gourmet panini every single day for the rest of my life and I'd die a happy woman.
That being said, there will not be any paninis or Subway in this girl's diet. My doctor recommends to stay away from deli meat unless it's fully cooked/steaming hot, which just doesn't sound as good.
Chicken sandwiches, now that's another story.

Right after I read this, I loaded dd up and went up Subway. It sounded so good! I get the veggie there anyway, but man, it helped me feel good for an hour! Thanks!
Sounds good! I got a sierra turkey sandwich from Panera the other day and didn't even think about the turkey part until after I bought it... haha. I'm not too hung up on the deli meat rule though. You can get listeria from many different foods including fruit (I seem to recall a cantaloupe contamination a few years ago), veggies, seafood, etc. I don't see doctors telling women they can't eat fruit though. While Listeria is really scary, you can't live in a bubble. Just my opinion though. (This is coming from someone who had a miscarriage and is majorly paranoid by the way lol).
my doctor told me this week it's fine to have cold cuts-- same as others have said- get it from a good place. i just bought the pre-packaged hillshire farms turkey b/c i read somewhere that there's less opportunity for contamination since it's not sitting behind the deli counter all day. but the doc said listeria outbreaks are so uncommon, it's not something you have to worry about. and i have had 2 miscarriages and have been by the book on so many things. however, a turkey sandwich on wheat with lettuce and tomato is one of the healthier filling lunches i can think of!

Interesting that your dr is ok with cold lunch meat. Mine advised not to eat it unless it was heated to steaming.

My doctor said the same thing about lunch meat. Not unless I zap it in the microwave. So BLT from Jimmy Johns is as close as I get.
