What is your go-to baby shower gift?

I feel like my perspective on baby shower gifts has completely changed now that I have DD.  I have a few baby showers coming up and was trying to decide what to get.

Do you have something that you always give for baby shower gifts now?

  • Sophie or something from Etsy or to go with something from the registry. But I always buy something from the registry.

  • Diapers. A big box of diapers. In size two. Useful, and most people don't do bigger sizes. Diaper pail with refills too, if it is somebody where I want to spend more. I don't do cute, I only do useful.

  • I always give the PK Halinan book "how do I love you" then if they are registered for a baby carrier I buy that because baby wearing has always been so helpful for me.  Other than that I try and shy away from people's registries and get something more personal.  If its someone I am very close to I like to make things,  I always think its so crazy to look at people's registries and see items that I just cannot believe they thought they would need!

I don't have a go-to gift, but since having Lily my mom has started to give everyone she knows sleepsacks and/or links.  I definitely think the sleepsack is a good one.  Friends of ours have started giving everyone mesh feeders, since we got them one for their daughter.  I also like to give a book that we like that isn't super common (so not Goodnight Moon); personal favourite is Grumpy Bird.

Honestly, besides the big ticket items, my favourite gift was from friends who got us a package at Walmart Portrait Studio.  We went and got the photos done when she was a week old and it was so easy.

  • I almost ALWAYS buy something off of the registry, but I'm also now obsessed with these blocks:

CK has them and LOVES them.  Each letter has something inside that corresponds, and they make different noises/movements.

  • I have 3 baby showers to go to within the next month or so and I bought each one of them a boppy.

What if they plan to cloth diaper? I ask because my sister and I went back and forth on whether or not to put the fact that we planned (and do) cloth diaper on the shower invitation.

  • I generally buy something on the registry. Those are the things the mom really wants and needs. I like to throw in a cute outfit in size 6mo+, too, since most people give smaller sizes to the mom-to-be.
  • Something off the registry and then outfits in different sizes.

  • I check out the registry first. I try to remember it's what THEY want and how hard they probably worked to put it together.  If I don't see anything I go for items that I have found really useful but wouldn't have thought of for myself like this:

     https://www.amazon.com/Nosefrida-The-Snotsucker-Nasal-Aspirator/dp/B00171WXII

    Disgusting sounding? Yes. Amazing? YES!

I have also purchased the diaper bag and "stocked" it with items (diapers, wipes, creams etc).

Once in a blue moon if im short on time I will do a gift card to the store they are registered at as well. GL!

  • I always choose something from the registry. Since having DS I always choose something that has been very useful to us. Then I usually get something small like a smally toy, or a book.
  • Something off the registry and a 6m outfit from Carter's.

THIS. people that go off registry annoy me.  if there is no registry i will get a Miracle Blanket,  Sophie , baby carrier or a Boppy.  I never get clothes, they are always plenty of people that get them that.

  • Something off the registry, usually a baby carrier, RNP, swaddles/sleep sack, sound machine, etc. If there is nothing I've found useful on the registry I will put together a little basket with handy things...good nail clippers, Mustela baby shampoo and lotions, diaper rash creme, travel wipes, paci wipes, a few different types of pacis, etc. Unless the shower is for a very close friend, I never give clothes or blankets - I think everyone gets way too many of those.

  • If the RNP is on the registry I buy that. I loved that thing and everyone I know with a baby did too.

  • Something off the registry I would have used (bath, boppy, carrier) and then a care package with a kicky pants sleeper, robeez socks, FP seahorse, and bamboobies breast pads (if they're breastfeeding)

  • Since having a baby, everyone gets pretty much the same gift: summer swaddleme, washcloths, Dapple toy wipes, and a toy.

  • I like to get one big item or else a group of smaller items with a theme (like bath stuff, bedtime stuff, feeding stuff, etc).  Always off the registry!

  • Sophie and if it's a girl a Minnie Mouse bow from Retrobloom on Etsy. I only shop from a registry if it's something I think they'll use and it's worth the money. If your sweet pea needs closet hangar dividers and $20 sheets from Pottery Barn you can purchase them yourself.

Hasn't happen yet. If it was, I would probably purchase some cloth diapers, liners, a month of diaper service or something like that.

You can usually tell from their registry if they plan to CD.  If there are no diapers/diaper pail/that kind of thing on the registry, I'd ask if they were planning to CD and if they need any of those.  A couple of diapers and/or some CD safe detergent would be a good choice.

  • I always get the nosefrida and bc all my friends have planned to bf I've gotten bamboobies, nipple cream and mothers milk tea. I feel like these are items you need but generally don't register for. I always get something off the registry too. I tend to go overboard at baby showers.
