How my RE consult went

Okay update time. I spent 2 hours with my doctor. We talked about the whole process. How it is supposed to work and things that stop it from working.

Obviously we discussed PCOS and how that affects everything. He did a full work up, breast exam, pap, cervical culture and internal U/s for my lining and ovaries.

Next came the blood work. Like a list as long as my arm for tests. Before insurance this costs $1500. Luckily insurance covers 90%. I pay about %50.

Next they will call to confirm I am not KU and I start Provera. Between CD 7 and 10 I go in for an HSG ($3900 before insurance about $150 after).

Then DH will go in for an SA (%700 before and $300 after because he hasn't used up any other his deductible) and the same panel of blood work. Then we will meet with Dr. Zoma again and go over everything all at once and make a plan. Good news is even though IUI isn't covered at all it is only $350. I am not sure about IVF yet.

I feel pretty good about it overall. I am just impatient.

Just got off the phone with DH and we talked about everything. I think I am going to take Dr.'s suggestion to lose 10% body fat and get healthier. I want a baby but even more want a healthy baby. So I am going on BCP and joining the YMCA. My motivation is that precious face that will stare at me in about a year. How's that for positive thinking??

    This sounds like SUCH a good appointment!  Sounds like the Dr. was SUPER thorough and helpful.  Glad you have a new plan!

    Glad your appt went well, I also see an RE and have PCOS.  I see you've already tried Clomid- did you respond well?  I ended up being Clomid resistant but responded to Femara.  Did your RE say whether you'd be doing Clomid, Femara or injectables with IUI?  Good luck whichever way you go, hoping you won't have to move on to IVF and IUI does it for you!!

    He said he really wanted to do the tests first and go from there, I know I feel at peace with our decision to meet a healthy goal weight first and then complete the tests. When I was on Clomid I did O with 100mg. However he said we may try a whole new approach. I am guessing it all depends on the tests and how they come out. He did say he would like to shoot for IUI no matter what though. Thank you so much!!

    Yay for a good appt!! Can't wait to hear about your plan after the testing. I recently had a hsg test done and if you never have it's really not that bad. Good luck to you! Keep me posted :)

    Lots of testing, all clear with the exception of compound heterozygous for the MTHFR mutation. 

    Cycle 1: Femara, trigger shot, Bravelle added due to slow response = BFN
    Cycle 2: Cancelled due to two cysts =(
    Cycle 3: Femara, Bravelle, trigger shot and IUI = BFP then loss #3
    Cycle 4: Femara, Follistim, trigger shot and IUI = BFP!  EDD: 6/7/14

    Great attitude and glad you have a plan!

    4 Losses (2003, 2008, Apr 2012, & Oct 2012)
    All RPL and IF testing with multiple REs = normal

    5 IUIs = BFN
