Now for a weird question...

Have any of you heard a "popping" noise when the baby moves? Almost like the sound cracking your knuckles? Every now and then, when the baby is moving around a bunch, I hear a light sound from my belly, that reminds me a lot of the sound a joint makes when it cracks/pops. Could it possibly be one of the baby's joints popping? I can't figure out what else it might be!

Re: Now for a weird question...

  • Hmm weird.. i dont think baby's joints can "pop" but I'm no doctor.. I don't think I've ever sat quietly enough to hear any sort of noises coming from my belly ... I'll listen for it though.. :) ....interesting!

  • I totally get this.  I hear it probably once or twice a day when I am quiet and still.  It is exactly like you described.  I can't seem to find any real answers as to what it is... just other forum posts.  Some say it's the baby's joints, others say it comes from fluid getting swished around quickly.  My OB looked at me with the "...I got nothing" face when I asked her about it.  She chalked it up to one of those "crazy pregnancy things"... Gee doc, thanks for the insight, lol.  It's pretty common though and nothing to worry about!

Interesting theory about the amniotic fluid. I haven't tried researching it at all. I just heard it happen again, and this was my first crack at seeing if anyone else has noticed the same. So, I'm at least glad to know I'm not crazy and imagining it!

  • All the time. Makes me think my water has broke every time.
  • I can't hear it (I have hearing issues) but I can feel it if my hand happens to be there when it happens. I thought it was baby passing gas, lol! Asked a friend who's an OB nurse and she said it's not gas, probably fluid. DH laughed his butt off at me :)

You're definitely not imagining it.  If you do find any info on it, would you please share, as I am curious as well.  Like I said, the only "info" I have found has come from other forums... So no real answers, lol.

  • OMG! I thought I was crazy!!!!!!! I get this too. Stick out tongue

  • Yep I've been hearing it too!  Someone posted about it either here or on the 3rd Tri board and their doctor told them it was likely the baby's little bones or ligaments or something popping as he/she grows and stretches.

  • YES! Me too. To me is sounds like when I crack my back from sitting up straight if that makes sense. Like a very light noise that I hear from the inside. Glad I'm not the only one.
