smelling everything...

does anyone else have a super heightened sense of smell? i normally have no sense of smell, but for the last few weeks, i have been smelling everything! i can barely handle the smell of the hand soap i just used while i'm typing. luckily i'm not too yet, or i think i'd be going crazy.

Re: smelling everything...

  • Its a common early symptom.  There is a subway on my walk to the train and for some reason it just smells awful, i have to cover my face now when i walk by.

All of this - I have to hold my breath while walking to the EL train from the Metra.  There is one spot where a bum always, um, relieves himself.  Makes me want to toss my cookies every.single.morning.

  • **Rasing hand** I definately have a hightened sense of smell. I couldn't even stand the smell of my deodarant this morning.

  • My H always said I was nasally sensative, but now it's getting worse. Oddly, the worst smell for me is the ice cream place that I walk by in the morning. I can't handle the smell of waffle cones being made.

  • I can't stand the smell of peanut butter right now.  In fact, that is how I suspected I was pregnant.  We were making peanut butter play dough in my classroom and I almost lost my lunch.  Just today I was making DD a peanut butter sandwich and gagged.  It's too bad, because peanut butter is basically a food group in my diet.

  • It was a symptom in both of my previous pregnancies, but I haven't really noticed it too much yet in this one. Then again, I'm in full allergy season and my nose is really stuffed up at night, so maybe that's part of the reason.

I did, however, just notice the smell of gas and realized that when DH tried to light the stove (gas stove), it didn't catch so the house was filling up with gas. Awesome. DH said he smelled it and thought it was the hotdogs he had just opened. Confused

Ugh yes, it's terrible. Where I live most of our neighbors have dogs and it started raining when I was talking mine on a walk (big surprise in Seattle) and the smell of dog pee just smacked me in the face. I had to run home barely breathing lest I throw up outside and embarrass myself LOL.

  • Mine is definitely stronger.  We keep the litter box in the guest bathroom and I could barely go in that room a few days ago.  My BF couldn't smell anything.  I also am extra sensitive to cigarette smoke too.
  • I have a really sensitive sense of smell normally but mine is out of control too! I had a couple of unlit candles in my office that I had to remove because the smell of them was too much to take!!
