Hi all,
We have had a hell of a month. About 4 weeks ago, DD was diagnosed with her second ear infection (first was about 3 months ago). She had a shot of Rosephin, then got Augmentin to try to clear it up. She throws up all meds, so the Augmentin didn't work so well, and when we came back in 2 weeks later, she still had the infection (she threw up about 25% of the doses of Augmentin, and we tried redoing, but it didn't always work). She received 2 more rounds of Rosephin after 2 weeks and then came down with the flu last week, about 3 days after her ears cleared (we have to go back daily for the additional shots, so they checked and she only needed the 2 doses of Rosephin, instead of 3, because it cleared). So, then, on Monday night, she threw up and I thought it was a fluke (although I had a sneaking suspicion that she had something wrong because she had been fussy, tugging her ears and didn't want to be laid on her back, although if we distracted her, she would start laughing). Then, yesterday, we got a call from DC saying that she threw up, and had a 101.5 fever. So, since I am out of PTO, my DH had to take her to the doctors, where they found out that she has an ear infection in her other ear (hasn't had one in that ear yet). She threw up again last night, hasn't been eating the best (obviously) and had a fever until this morning at about 5. I had to use a Tylenol suppository, because she will throw up the actual Tylenol, but I didn't see a difference in fever or demeanor (for pain).
So, DH is home with her today and we go for an ENT referral. She will then go back to the Ped if she still has the infection, for the second round of shots. My question: has anyone gone through this before? Our DS has tubes (got them, at 12 months), so I know the process, just am a little sketchy since she is so much younger. But, since she won't take the oral antibiotics, I know that they can't keep giving her shots. It sucks. Even DC this morning said they are surprised that she has gotten sick so many times in the last month. In the 7 months she has been alive, she has had the flu 3 times, 4 ear infections (or 2 that just kept going) and numerous colds. Gotta love DC centers!
I am so tired......:)
Re: Tubes (XP)
My nephew got them a month ago (at a year) and a friends baby Just got them at 9 months. It's a very simple procedure and they were acting just like themselves that day. The only bad part, is you can't feed them after midnight (the procedure is usually around 7).
Also, my sister really wanted to be there when my nephew was waking up but that was against the policy. She wish she had fought that and been in there.
Good luck!
