Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone is interested in reading this now that we all have outside babies, but I finally typed it left handed while BFing at 3 am so I feel that it deserves it's time in the sun! Yay for my barely a May baby!
So I had been having contractions that were 8-10 mins apart for 2 days, but the morning of her induction arrived and she still was not ready to come out on her own. We got to the hospital at 6am and had to wait around for a bit because yay hospital bureaucracy! They hooked me up to the Pitocin drip at 8 and were upping the dosage every 20 mins after that. After the first hour, the contractions were about 4-5 mins apart but still manageable with Lamaze type breathing. Then, sh!t got real. Contractions started coming every minute and they lasted a minute. I couldn't talk, all I could do was focus and breathe. DH was awesome holding my hand and breathing with me, but I began to doubt my ability to do it without pain meds as I had only been 3cm 50% effaced when they checked me in. I hung on for 3 more hours of contractions every minute, but then a resident came in and asked me how I was liking my epidural. "she didn't get one." said DH. The resident looked at me like I was insane. I asked her to check me again and I was 5cm 100% effaced. I gave up and asked for te epidural. It was tough to hold still cuz the contractions were making me shake but oh man as soon as it kicked in it was magic. They checked me an hour later and I was at 9 cm. At around 4:30 my doctor came in and told me we could start pushing. It was going ok, I really only felt pressure because of the epidural, but Elodie was sunny side up so they had to do an episiotomy to get her out for my last 2 pushes. She came out screaming and promptly pooped all over the nurse. That's my girl!!! Then I had to get stitched up which sucked because the epidural was wearing off, but finally that was done and I delivered the placenta and yay the miracle of birth!
