Natural Birth

Preparing - Hypnobabies home study? Class? Will I be prepared?

I am 32 weeks and have been majorly slacking in terms of preparing for this birth.  I know I want to go natural, and am hiring a doula.. but I don't know how I want to handle techniques, ie bradley, hypnobabies, etc.   Theres really not much time left for a class, so I was thinking of doing the hypnobabies home study.   Has anyone had good experiences with that?   Is it enough preparation for me?  Any other suggestions to get ready with limited time left?

**Also if anyone is SELLING a hypnobabies home study, please email me - oodles1213 at comcast.net, thanks!

  • We took a regular birth class and a HynoBirthing class. I also read the HypnoBirthing book before taking the class. Honestly, I didn't get that much more from the HypnoBirthing class because I had read the book. I would feel fine just having read the book (and having saved myself the class fee) and hiring a doula. The book gives you confidence in your ability to have a natural birth.

  • I had a great experience with the Hypnobabies home study.  You can read the birth story on my facebook page:

I decided to use it after a very difficult, surprise natural birth with my son.  I researched so many classes before choosing: Bradley, Hypnobirthing, Lamaze, Birthing from Within and Hypnobabies.  There was no Hypnobabies instructor and I did the home study.  I followed the instructions exactly.  My husband was skeptical, but agreed to support me. (He later became a huge advocate.  You can read his story here: https://www.hypnobabies.com/mylink.php?id=6638).  I chose Hypnobabies because the videos on you tube where amazing.  I'm so happy I did.  I had a birth free from discomfort.  I felt educated, informed and in control.  The class was more than enough information for me and the tools were amazing.

Good luck!  I hope you choose Hypnobabies.  It is well worth the money.

I used the Hypnobabies home study course for the pregnancy and birth of my first (and only) son. The knowledge that I gained through the course and the birthing tools I learned and used were amazing. Although not my "ideal" birth, it was an empowered one in which I always felt in control and that I made the best decisions for my family. My husband and doula felt it was great as well. I did purchase a hypno-doula workbook for my doula since she had never done a Hypnobabies birth before but she would have done fine with just the information I shared with her from the course. As for other suggestions, I would just spend any extra time reading fantastic Hypnobabies birth stories, watching Hypnobabies birth videos, and reading any other Hypnobabies recommended reading. Happy birthing!
  • Thanks everyone!  If I order a home study now, do you think I'll be okay completing it in the next 6-8 weeks?
  • I used the Hypnobabies Homestudy course. It was great! It far exceeded my expectations as far as preparing me completely for birth. I guess I didn't realize it was a complete childbirth course plus Hypnosis tools for birthing time. I just assumed I would be learning some Hypnosis tools. :) As long as you have 6weeks to prepare before you due date, you will have plenty of time. I honestly believe it is the easiest and most efficient way to prepare for a natural birth. Nothing on the market can beat it! Maybe look for an instructor in your area for you to do a birth rehearsal. My husband and I did that right after we finished the home study, and it helped a ton to see how to put all the Hypnobabies tools into action for the birth. Good luck!!
