Girls Next Door vs Sister Wives

What's the difference?  This is such a random thought, but I don't understand why it's ok for Hef to date all these women, have them all living in his house and have sex with them.... but the Sister Wives, who just want to live normal lives, get kicked out of their houses.  That is all.

Re: Girls Next Door vs Sister Wives

  • Not speaking for myself, just how other people are perceiving the show.

When you bring marriage into something, as we are finding out about gay marriage, people tend to take things "personally". Hef is a single bachelor, not married, with multiple sex partners. People scoff at this but they accept his behavior because the women are taking part in it equally and, quite frankly, they are looked down upon anyways as hookers, etc, so no one expects anything more of them. For Sister Wives, they are "married", even if not in the legal sense. You have a man fathering LOTS of kids and (even though they don't admit to it) enforcing their beliefs of plural marriage on said kids. Unlike the Girls Next Door (unless there are some I haven't seen), there are not kids in the situation. They are not made to be role models for anyone so their partying life style stays between them.

Honestly, I have no idea if this makes sense to anyone else but me because my migraine is causing my screen to turn all shades of blue..... but I think the general point is that in one you have a bunch of partying people that no one takes seriously. Nothing is expected of them except for the behavior that they portray. Sister Wives, on the other hand, is about marriage and involves the influence that their life style has on all the children involved (and let's face it.... I've watched the show and a lot of the time what they go through isn't fair to the kids)

Again... not all my opinion, but having discussed it with other people that's what I've come up with.

This actually sounds about right. The 'Girls' are slutty, no one expects any different. The 'Wives' make you expect wives, but the multiple marriage situation makes them seem slutty as well, and it just doesn't sit right.

Although I believe that one of the girls next door has a kid.

  • That's an interesting thought.  In both cases it's just a man living with multiple women.  One way it's illegal becasue they are "married", but not according to the law, and the other way is legal because there is no talk of marriage, just a man living with multiple girlfreinds.  Anyone know what the legal definition of polygamy is?  and why it's illegal in one case here and not the other?

Exactly what I thought.  I was thinking about it last night as I was watching Kendra's new show.  Holly stopped by for a visit, and Kendra was reflecting on her time at the mansion where they shared a boyfriend.  Yes, Kendra now has a child.  I don't remember any kids from the girlfriends, but Hef's 2 sons lived next door with their mom, whom he was still married to during all this nonsense.  I think they divorced recently.
