2nd Trimester

Braxton Hicks??

So, I'm 25 wks and occasionally my stomach has been getting REALLY hard like a rock. It doesn't hurt but it just gets super rock-like for a minute or so and then goes away. Is this BH contractions? If so, aren't they supposed to hurt? I don't know what's goin on..

Re: Braxton Hicks??

  • I've had a few and I'm just shy of 20 weeks.  I think they only hurt in the movies :)  I never had any braxton hicks pain with this or my previous pregnancy.  If they start coming more frequently, last longer, or do hurt, you should call your OB.

  • I started getting BH last week. Mine make my stomach feel really tight and hard. It doesn't really hurt, but it's an unsettling feeling. It usually lasts less than a minute.

  • Those sounds like BH to me. I have had 2 contractions that hurt, but I was walking at a fairly decent pace, and they had me curled over in pain. That was a week or two ago, ever since they have been exactly as you described.

  • I know how you feel... I didn't get them w/ my first preg but twice in the last week I have gotten pressure in my lower abdomen that will tighten for a few seconds then go away and my lower back will start to hurt. I went to my dr. & they said keep hydrated & don't do anything at all when I get home from work at night. They didn't say anything about Braxton hicks but thats what I thought it could be?

Call your dr if you're concerned there's nothing better than piece of mind!

  • From about 32 weeks one with DD I had them pretty much all day everyday. Not uncomfortable just a squeezing. They seemed to be worse with a full bladder and definitely if I was dehydrated.

  • Yes, that's how I would describe them. They're not painful. Real contractions are ;)

I've been getting them for weeks now. If I have been to active I notice that they can sometimes feel like a mild cramp but for the most part they arn't painful at all. About a week or two ago I had one that made me hunch over some with a face that apparently screamed "what the heck was that?" However, OB says if they can't be timed then not to worry.

  • Yup, Im right there with ya! I didnt get them at all with my first pregnancy. I mentioned it to my doc the other day and she actually ended up sending my urine off to test for UTI. A UTI can also cause BH as well.
