shoes...

Is there a practical purpose for them at this age?  I mean, I know they are beyond cute, but is there a practical purpose for them before LO is walking?

Re: shoes...

  • I wonder this too. I am wondering if it would help DS when he stands, he tends to turn his feet out right now and I was thinking about putting shoes on to see if this helps correct it.

To answer OP, no there isn't. But I still bought a pair of Sperry's for LO to match his daddy (they were are on a ridiculously good sale).

To PP, I don't think babies are assesed for any feet problems until they are actually walking, if there is no visible signs of a problem before then. Their limbs are still straightening out from time in utero right now (notice how LO's lower legs still seem bowed).

  • I see a PT for my LOs torticolis and she said that shoes shouldn't be worn at this stage as foot development is helped by them having stimultion on the bottom of their feet. This is not to say that they should never wear shoes, but when they are practicing standing or in the jumpers they should have bare feet to help development.

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

  • No, that is why if they do wear shoes they should be very soft and flexible.

  • Much like PP, we were always told shoes are a no-no and they can interfere with foot growth and development. Using them once in a while is fine (for a photo op or whatever) but definitely not for any extended period of time and not regularly. We bought some flip flops for DS but he seems to be uncomfortable in them, so they usually last about 2 minutes on his feet.

  • I have not purchased any shoes for LO yet. Aside from accessorizing a cute outfit, I do not see a reason for them. I do know that one of DS's first pairs of shoes will definitely be Chuck Taylors, though!
