Before two beautiful little ones came into my life I splurged on all sorts of things for myself (I wish I had that $$$ back!). Now that I'm a SAHM I'm more budget-conscious so I was wondering what do you still (or now) splurge on for yourself or others? Any must-haves that you cannot give up or live without?
(1) Even though most days I use a few bobbie pins in my hair or wear a baseball cap when we're out, I still "splurge" on a good haircut. On the rare occasion that I bother styling my hair it still looks nice. (2) I still buy my favorite Aveda hair products and now they last longer! (3&4) I also recently splurged on a handmade leather purse as well as a personalized necklace with my two LOs initials, both on Etsy. (5) A mom friend and I meet every other week for breakfast at a nice restaurant that serves locally grown/sourced ingredients when available and the best coffee around. We're usually there 1.5 hours and we both agree its the best therapy there is!
Re: What item(s)/service(s) do you splurge on?
Breastfeeding and pregnant!
In a way... day care.
We looked at a lot of them, and most were cheaper than the one we ultimately chose.... but in the end we decided it would be a good investment, even if we had to cut back in other areas.
This, except we splurged on a nanny because the daycare we wanted was way out of our way and not worth the extra time / money.
I still get bi-weekly mani/pedis
Craft supplies lol DDs crafting bin gets stuff added to it weekly. If you look at my amazon history it has nearly 100 different crafting things we have gotten for her. She loves it. Oh and Zoo passes and aquarium passes etc.
Oh and boatsNhoes fo sho
Jelly! Mani / Pedi's were one of the things that had to go to make this day care feasible.... Our cleaning lady too! =( But in the end, the peace of mind is worth it.
Haha, I negotiated and we cut premium cable instead!
You mean not everyone spends endless amounts of money on these?
I thought these were house hold staples.
My splurge is Smashbox makeup.
Although I don't know if you can really consider it splurge since I only need to buy stuff maybe once a year.
me too. I budget them in. The real splurge is when I go to Vegas to get my fix.
My baby is two!!! Baby girl 9/17/09
My other baby is still a baby! Baby Boy 11-30-11
Lol!
House cleaners, my nice car, and designer jeans. If we were listing things we skimp on, mine would be a lot longer than that!
Jan17 Sept Sig: Pumpkin Spice gone too far
This exactly. And under eye concealer. I have inherited my mom's dark circles (plus my DS's sleep sucks) so $30 for good concealer is completely worth it for me.
I think I need to find something to splurge on... I used to go to the store and splurge on me. Now I go to the store to splurge for me and end up splurging for DS.
My Blog
For myself, Estee Lauder cosmetics.
ETA: Jewelry too, my aunt has her own jewelry company and when she is not giving away pieces, I buy a lot for friends at a heavily discounted prices.

Jeans. I'm fine with $10 Old Navy tees and such...but I love my jeans.
Hair products. I'd go without lots of things before giving up professional hair products.
Make up....this is mainly because I would spend a fortune in attempting to find something that would work for me in Covergirl, etc. I might as well fork out a bit more for something I already know works and I like.
I often think of splurging on pedicures but can't find a good nail tech to save my life! My feet are in need though.
This for us, too! I also buy Redken shampoo, and Zevia soda. I am trying to stop going to Starbucks, because it isn't worth the splurge for me.
