I'm sorry, I know it's been discussed before.
Do you cut whatever it is into bite sized pieces? (I'm thinking puff sized)
I know it has to be something soft/cooked.
I was reading that spiral noodles are a good finger food... I'm making rigatoni tonight, so was thinking of saving some without sauce to give her, is rigatoni okay? should I cut it up?
Any other finger food tips? I'm pretty lost and also afraid of stuff breaking off in her mouth or choking.
Help please ![]()
Re: Guys.. I need finger food help
My general rule of thumb is to cut things into portions the size of my pinki nail. That way, even if she does swallow it whole without mashing it up, she won't choke. It won't exactly be comfortable, but it isn't dangerous.
Noodles sound fun! I'll have to try that myself.
Foods that can be picked up pretty easily are best for me. She loves bananas, but they're so slippery, she can't get them in her little hands very easily.
Same here! Jack loves bananas but I always end up feeding them too him because he can't quite get a grip.
I read on here to coat them in the rice or oatmeal powdered baby food. It helped us with bananas. Never wouldn't thought of it.
Depending on what I give him depends on how big the pieces are. Some foods I cut into strips that he can pick up with his hand and still have some sticking out to eat. He does well with both big and little pieces.
That's....brilliant. Wow. I never, ever would've come up with that on my own, but it's simple and perfect.
Doh.
That should be a tip & trick! Great idea!!! Thank you for sharing.

I cut into bite size pieces. Just this week I tried to give him bigger stuff like a whole sweet potato fry and he just shoved the whole thing in his mouth.
I actually have to give him food one piece at a time because he'll just keep shoveling it in!
So I'd cut one noodle of rigatoni into 2-3 pieces. I'd also let them have a little sauce on there, for flavor.
I do bite sized pieces (pinky nail size). I can't give him a wedge or big piece, because he shoves the whole thing in his mouth. Pasta is a great thing to try. Ditto the rice cereal idea if it's something too mushy for them to pick up.
J has had pieces of banana, peas, mango, bread, avocado, carrot, pasta, and others that I can't think of.
"What did my fingers do before they held you? What did my heart do with it's love?"
Certain things i do bite size ( carrots, pasta, any meat)
Some i do sticks ( grilled cheese, waffle, baked sweet potato or fry, toast)
She does really well with crackers and i give them to her whole with some hummus on them.
So far so good with the finger foods so I am starting to give her more table food and less purees!
