Just saw your reply in Milestone Monday. My daycare did the transition for us! They pretty much just cold turkey stopped offering her the bottle, and poured her milk into a cup and handed it to her. Sitting in a circle with 8 other kids all drinking out of their cups, she just did it!
At first she got pissed when I offered her milk from me in a cup, missing the comfort and cuddles I'm sure. But I just kept offering and then switching to a bottle if she got upset. She's mostly stopped getting upset, and drinking from the cups now! So excited bc we can put the cups in the dishwasher! (never felt like it got bottles clean enough)
Re: DaisyJane (Re Milk in cups)
Thanks! I sent a sippy of WCM to daycare yesterday, in hopes that he would pick it up easier there (that's how we got him to start purees). He had a few sips but not much. I sent a sippy of breast milk today, hoping it goes better. I'm still sending his regular number of bottles too, though. He turns 1 on Saturday, and then his pedi appt is the next Friday. I think I'll keep trying to gradually introduce the sippy for awhile, but if the pedi says we should stop bottles cold turkey, then we'll do it after that appointment.
Glad to hear it worked out for you!
Yeah I was picturing more of a slow transition. Then one day school said "she took all her milk in cups today" I asked them how they did it and they said they just didn't give her the option! Guess it worked!
We are using the Take n Toss ones. I put them in the dishwasher and put the lids in one of those dishwasher baskets and they seem to come out clean enough. I always felt like the bottles had a greasy film on them, but that might be a breastmilk vs formula thing?
I've been sending it in Playtex straw cups for now, but I also got some Take n Toss straw cups, and Take n Toss spout cups, which I will send if the Playtex one isn't a big success today. I also tried offering just a plain old cup last night, which turned out pretty funny. I only filled it with about an ounce of BM because I didn't want it to spill, but then I went to tilt it to him, and he put his face down, so I couldn't tilt it far enough. So he was opening his mouth waiting for the milk but it wouldn't come! I'm going to have to try more milk at a time, but he was getting pretty frustrated last night so I haven't done it yet.
My daycare is so "go with the flow" that they'd probably keep offering bottles forever if I kept sending them. In some ways that's nice (no judgement!) but in other ways I'm like, "Tell me what I'm supposed to do!"
That's very nice! I adore my daycare, but I do have to be very clear with them if I want something done a certain way, or she ends up eating high fructose corn syrup with all the other kids
