Within the last few weeks, the little man has stopped being an awesome eater. He's definitely more picky now and it seems like he hardly eats at meals. He will, of course, plow thru cheerios and goldfish if you let him. But turns his nose up to most meats and a few previously loved veggies. Anyone else? Suggestions on how to get him to eat more or is this a natural progression? He's still drinking milk and water like a champ!
Re: Anyone else?
Pretty much this exactly. I've also been trying to cook things differently, although part of that is forced since we found out she has a milk allergy. I can get her to eat pretty much anything if I make it a stir fry or fried rice. Sometimes if she's being picky just giving her a fork or spoon so she can work on doing it herself gets her to eat more.
Giving a fork has been a big help for me. DD only really wants to eat "with" a fork. I also just spoke to my pedi about snacks. I feel like I often give DD so many snacks between meals ('cause she asks for them) that she's not hungry at mealtime. Today I gave her meals and set snacks (instead of small snacks continuously) and she ate better.
But my pedi was also saying that they go through phases where they are just super picky and that it's normal (she called it the toddler slump). She said a kid will not starve him/herself so it's ok to just offer things and let them catch up at the next meal.
I find feeding to be the hardest part of parenting (at least right now - ask again when she's 13).
DD has gotten more picky on food. Pasta was always a fav and she's kind of weird about it. She does eat food from my plate easier, even if it's the exact same as what's on her plate. For dinner I don't make her special meals, she gets what we eat, unless I know that it's something she hates. She'll only get something else if she tries the food first. For lunch I can make something just for her.
Her appetite seems to come and go. We just go with it, she's not a big eater anyway.
