Natural Birth

keeping baby in longer

So, most people want tips on getting baby out, I kind of want my baby to stay in there until at least a few days after my due date because my insurance is changing July 1st and I'll need time to let the hospital do a prior auth and rate match since of course the new insurance makes my hospital out of network (in network on the current one).  And well, I want her in July...like me  LOL!  I was going to start the RRL tea and then epo later on but now I'm thinking I should delay those a few wks...just in case they work too well for me.  So either she needs to come a few days before June 30 or a few days after.  I hate my boss but apparently it was a huge difference in price to us to keep the current insurance.

Re: keeping baby in longer

  • Why is you insurance changing? I know there are some events, such as birth, that MOST insurances once they start the coverage for pregnancy they will continue till birth. I would call and see if there is anything you can do. I would also call the new insurance and explain your situation because sometimes if the patient calls you can get more done then if the hospital is doing things.

  • What a headache! I would NOT start supplements at all a this point if the goal is to wait into July. Sorry you have to deal with all this crap.
  • Insurance is changing because the current carrier raised its prices significantly and so they're changing to a carrier that is cheaper but still has good coverage.  It's an open option plan which does allow me to at least still deliver at the hospital I want but the rates would be higher.  I already talked to the hospital and like I said, they would do a rate match so that the cost to me would be basically the same as if I were in-network.  And I filled out a transitional care form and now have my very own case manager who called me today to get some info about my pregnancy and will be calling the hospital and my doctor's office to get things figured out.  She's also going to try to get everything pre-approved should I deliver in July.  Basically the old insurance and the new one I guess split the cost somehow.  So I'm feeling a little better about the switch knowing that someone is working on getting everything done.  Every year at this time there is the potential to have to switch because the rates vary by year.  We have been on the current plan for 3 yrs but the rates when way up this year so they decided to change.  The dental insurance is also changing and my dentist may not be on that plan.  They are checking since they participate on some of the plans but not all.  The good news is that my OB and FP (and future baby's doctor as well) are all in-network.  It's just the hospital that's out of network.

That is horrible about what's happening in Texas though!  So no plans have maternity care packages?
