Anyone go to a chiropractor?

I have had pretty bad rib cage and upper back pain since week 20.  The last 2 days have been really bad and I had my 30-week appointment today and my doctor suggested accupuncture or a chiropractor.  When I was going through fertility treatments I did accunpuncture and hated it.  I am debating going to a chiropractor but I do not think my insurance will cover it.

Anyone have success with a chiropractor and pregnancy aches and pains?

Re: Anyone go to a chiropractor?

  • I have a chiropractor I've been seeing throughout my pregnancy for sciatica.  I have found it quite helpful.  I plan to go back this week because this weekend my baby relocated to my ribs as well, and I can feel one of my ribs being pushed out of place.  It's pretty painful, so I'm hoping he can help as much as he did with my lower back.

  • I just went last Thursday, and I'm going back in again tomorrow.  I'm mostly going to help with baby positioning (Webster's technique helps to keep baby head-down).  As a bonus, I notice that with each adjustment, my hip/back pain is relieved!

I saw a prenatal chiro with DS for fetal positioning as well, as he was breech at 31 weeks.  He flipped to head-down by 32 weeks and stayed head-down the rest of the time.  I went once a week, and plan to do the same this time around as well.

  • Yup- I've been seeing one at least weekly since 17 weeks.  It's not covered by insurance but I'm able to pay for several sessions in advance so it works out to be very reasonable.  Definitely recommend someone trained in Webster's technique even if they aren't Webster's certified.  Shows a commitment to prenatal chiropractic care.  Definitely helps with the aches and pains as well as optimal positioning for labor.  GL!

  • I always go to the chiropractor every 8 weeks. I just went and asked about getting an adjustment for rib pain. My chiropractor wasn't comfortable with doing an adjustment because of the baby's position. He said he might be able to do something for my back, but not my ribs.

I thought I remember seeing on a post somewhere that you lived in the Houston area...are you seeing Dr. Long?  I have an appointment next Monday for my SPD and I can't wait!  I heard she is awesome.

  • I normally do not visit one but went for the first time today because baby is transverse. He is trained in the Webster's technique

  • I have been going for the past month and it has made a huge improvement on my back pain.  at 25 weeks I could barely stand on my own two feet and now at 30 weeks I can walk straighter than ever.  Every once in a while my sciatica acts up but my Chiro works his magic and I feel so much better.  It worked for me.

  • i work for a chiropractor, so i get adjustments whenever i need them, most of the time once a week.

it sounds like you may have a rib misalignment! that can be pretty painful :

if your insurance doesn't cover it, check into a clinic anyway. we have cash plans for $35 a visit, and i'm sure most chiropractors have about the same rate for those without insurance coverage.

  • I've been going to the chiropractor on a regular basis and it really does help!
  • I've seen a chiro through this whole PG. She specializes in PG and is a miracle worker. This PG is soooo different from my first and I really credit the help that she gives my body. My insurance doesn't cover it,so I pay OOP but it isn't terribly much more than what some folks would pay as a co-pay.
  • I have been seeing a chiropracter since I got pregnant and while this is my first, I can say I  have had very few aches and pains.  I can't prove it is a result of the weekly adjustments, but I know I will repeat this process with future pregnancies!

  • I love going to my chiropractor! His table is awesome it opens up so my belly fits on the table without putting any pressure on the baby. I have scoliosis so i have been going to a chiropractor since i was about 13. If you are nervouse about someone pressing on your back as them if they use the an activator. This devise gets your back to move without all the cracking noises.  My lower back and siatic have been really hurting me and this is one of the best ways i get relief. Check your insurance. my HMO covers 20 visits a year and make sure the chiropractor went to a reputable college ( Palmer is in Davenport IA and alot of chiropractors go there).
