Moms of 2+ : weight question

Out of curiosity - what was the weight difference between your children? Were they roughly the same size at birth, or drastically different?

DS consistently measured on the smaller side, and was born at 41 weeks at 6lbs 13 oz - not a big baby by any means. This LO is consistently measuring a little on the bigger side (75th%ile). My Dr ensures me that it's highly unlikely for this baby to be "big" considering the size of our first (Barring any other issues, he's only seen drastic weight fluctuations in babies with different fathers).

Side note - I'm 100% aware of the possible inaccuracies with size/weight estimates. Just wondering what others have experienced.

Re: Moms of 2+ : weight question

  • DD1- 8lbs 1oz

    DS - 9lbs 8oz

Quite a big difference, really.  No other outstanding factors and I gained exactly the same 24lbs with both pregnancies.

  • DD - 7 lbs, 1 oz (born on due date @ 40 weeks) - measured right on track the whole time

    DS - 8 lbs, 2 oz  (born @ 41w2d) - measured 3 to 4 weeks ahead the whole time

FWIW, so far this LO is predicted to be closer to DD's weight at full-term based on the anatomy scan measurements.  This one has also been measuring right on track so far!

    HTH!

  • I don't think mine are the norm...

    DD1 - born 37w5d - 6lbs 9oz

    DD2 - born 35w0d - 6lbs 8oz

Mine were an ounce different even though one was preterm and one was term!

    • DD1: August 2009
    • DD2: December 2010
    • DS: August 2012
    • M/C 9/2013, 12/2013

  • I'm experiencing exactly the same as you...

DS was born at 39w5d and weighed 6lbs 14oz...

This baby has been measuring big all along (2-3 weeks ahead by u/s measurement).  It will be interesting to see what happens.

  • DD was 6 pound 2 ounces

DS was 8 pounds 6 ounces

I think this one will be even bigger, I've been measuring big.

Weight gain for me has been the same for all 3.

  • My OB told me they have found some trends that show boys will generally be a bit larger than their girl siblings at birth...I'm having another girl, so very curious if she'll be like her sister - arriving on her due date (on her own!) at 6 lbs 12 oz.  (which was about 1 full pound smaller than the estimate based on u/s).

  • DD#1 8.6 lbs (38 wks)

    DD#2 9.8 lbs (38.5 wks)

Both were 22.5 inches. I live in fear what this next one will be.

  • The girls were within ounces of each other (8lb 8oz and 8lb 6oz if I remember correctly).  I was induced with YDD at 38 weeks, and ODD came at 39 weeks herself however, so YDD would have been quite a bit bigger than ODD if she went another week.

DH and I married 8 years. Mom of three, stepmom of one.

  • Some of these make me nervous!! A pound and a half seems like a lot - although that would still put us just around 8 lbs. I guess we'll find out!!

  • DD 1 was born at 36 weeks but measured at 34 she was 4lbs 6 oz.

This LO seems to be measuring a lot bigger even at 32 weeks,

  • Also consider what differences you have in gestational ages.

    DD1 , born on her edd: 8lbs0oz

    DD2, born 4 days past edd: 7lbs9oz

DS, born 13 days past edd: 9lbs2oz

DS was obviously bigger because he stayed in longer. But DD2 was in my belly 4 days longer and was almost 1/2 a pound smaller than DD1.

I definitely don't buy into the whole, each baby will get bigger, thing. And try not to worry about the weight at all. It can just play evil tricks on your mind :) I never even considered it when I was overdue with DS and my Dr. never mentioned it either, which I'm extremely grateful for.

  • all my kids were different

    #1 - ds - 9 lbs 2 oz born 1 day after his DD

#2 - ds - born 2 weeks late at 42 weeks- induced and weighed 7 lbs 14 oz

    # 3 ds- born 3 weeks early - and was 7 lbs even

  • They were both 8lbs exactly, and DS was 1/2" longer. Born at about the same gestational age.

  • first daughter was 6lbs 10 oz,  second and third daughter were 7 lbs even each.  i dont remember at what week i carried till.

i've since divorced my ex husband i had my girls with, and am pregnant with my current husband - i'm wondering if the fathers genes play a role in the size of the baby at birth.  hm.
