June 2012 Moms

Henry Lloyd June 1st

I was seeing a MW and planned for a med free birth but after spinning babies, chiro, moxibustion and a failed version I had a scheduled c section on June 1st because LO refused to flip. If any of you remember I was very worked up about it. Although I am still disapointed I am healing well and it all pales in comparision to our new son.

We were both able to watch and got many pictures. My MW helped deliver him. I was having trouble feeling connected and an active participant during the surgery but not knowing the sex helped me immensly and totally brought me back when DH touched my forehead and said "Its a boy" at the same time DS let out his first cry. I started crying too. Henry was DHs grandfather's name and Lloyed is my father's middle name. DS never left us and DH cut the cord and was right next to me the whole time. DS was 7 lbs 3 oz and 21.5 inches long. He has blond hair and blue eyes like DH and an olive skin tone like me. He's perfect... but I'm mom :)

I was allergic to the morphine and itched like crazy, it took two doses of benadril and nubain to get it to subside so the first hour of recovery is a little fuzzy but I was able to nurse right away and remember thinking how alert he was for a new born. The maternity ward was hopping and we were all doing so well they moved us to a surgical recovery unit instead that is used to the overflow. Although DH was initially very upset it turned out to be okay because there were only a few patients up there, the nurses were amazing and very attentative.

DS sleeps three to four hours at a time and is already almost back up to birth weight and I am feeling very well and hoping to start doing more shortly (even though I've been told I'm already doing too much).

Good luck to all the June mamas! Enjoy the last little bit of your pregnancy. I wish I had focussed on that more instead of fretting so much.
