increase in Progesterone after m /c?

Hi ladies. I just got my bw results back, and my hcg is officially below 2. all m y RE 's nurse said was to call after my next missed period to start on my protocol again. They were very hesitant to put me on Progesterone to begin with (even though ny bw clearly showed I was low), and have flat out refused to increase it for future cycles. Is this common!? Should I be looking elsewhere? TIA

  • You don't have to take whatever your doc says as gospel. You're more than welcome to get a 2nd opinion! If they agree with what your current doc said, then maybe stay with that doc, but if they give you a different answer then it's time to rethink your RE!

  • That's confusing bc my RE says you can't have too much progesterone and she says it's better to be safe than sorry...

I've switched DRs b/c they didn't seem to want to help... didn't want me on prog... etc... but it's a very hard decision to start over with someone new! I'm glad I did... but take some time to think about it first.

I think there is some conflicting information out there about progesterone.  My OB said that studies have not shown progesterone suppositories to be linked to increased viability of a pregnancy and that a lot of IF doctors are moving away from it, but that since it can't hurt she wouldn't be opposed to prescribing it if I felt I needed it for "peace of mind".

  • Well, without progesterone, my LP is short - 8-10 days.  With progesterone, I have been able to have much longer LPs.  In fact, AF doesn't usually show up until a day or two after I stop the Crinone.

So, I know the progesterone is AT LEAST allowing me a more normal LP.  And I WAS able to get pregnant.  But 14dpIUI I began bleeding - which makes me think the dose I was on was enough to hold off a period, but possibly not enough to maintain a pregnancy.  I'm no doctor, just looking for answers where there may not be any.

I appreciate any other opinions/anecdotes too!

  • I get that progesterone is still a bit controversial but I think its been a saving grace for a lot of women and their babies. I know so many women who are convinced if it weren't for their progesterone they would have miscarried that baby too. I'd personally find a doctor who would give it to you.
