Another way that I no longer judge

I used to be such a food purest, a total snob.  I used to look at prepared box meals and think that was what lazy people used.  I made everything from scratch, subscribed to Bon Apetit (and made those recipes in there), and lived for those cooking shows.  Anything less was not good enough.

No more.  I let my magizine subscription lapse, I rarely have time/energy to make things from scratch, and I just saw a commercial for a Kraft meal in a bag thing with cheese and panko crumbs that come with it (prepared seasoning!-gasp!) and I thought to myself that it would be a good idea to use.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

  • It's going to be okay! I make myself feel better by buying organic processed crap. It's okay for my kids to eat easy mac as long as it is the Annie's brand.

I was the exact same way and just last week I made Hamburger Helper.  It was pretty good too!

  • We all do what it takes to get by. DD is having liverwurst from the deli for dinner tonight instead of a homemade meat puree. I'm telling myself that I'm just exposing her to different flavor combinations and putting some goat cheese on the side Embarrassed
  • LOL!!  You guys are so funny! Organic processed crap vs. regular processed crap!  I remember Hamburger Helper from my apartment when I first moved out.  Also, goat cheese classes anything up, especially when you call it cherve (don't know how to do the thingy over the e).

The dark side isn't going to be that bad.

  • Ha! You just have to be smart about beefing up the crap so it won't taste like it.....welcome to the dark side.

Those are delicious.  Especially if you use BBQ sauce instead of water to moisten the meat!

  • I am 100% with you on this one. DH and I used to turn on the music, open a bottle of wine, and cook something from Food and Wine or Bon Appetit that would take hours to make. Now when DH asks me what we should have for dinner I quickly suggest something frozen that we bought from Schwans or Trader Joe's. I am hoping that DS will begin to entertain himself a bit more so we can at least spend a little time cooking something great from scratch again. I am praying that part of my life is not gone for good!
