Moby and Ktan questions

I have a Moby and love it (my DD is about 3 months old).  However, I have seen people post on the 3-6 month and 0-3 month boards that babies quickly outgrow the Moby and they only use it for the newborn stage.  I am a little confused by this because it seems like with all the fabric you have plenty of room to grow.  Have any of you had your LO outgrow the Moby?  How did you know when LO was too big to use it?

With the Ktan (which I am interested in) it seems that it would be more likely for your LO to outgrow it.  Has anyone bought a Ktan that fit perfectly when your LO was about the same age as mine, 3 months?  How long did it continue to work well for you?  I read on the site that the stretch of the fabric means you shouldn't have to go up a size, but I am just not sure about that.

Re: Moby and Ktan questions

  • The Moby is stretchy so once a baby hits about 15-20 lbs it's hard to get the Moby super tight.  It just keeps stretching.
To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew

Ditto. Jersey fabric gets saggy after about 15 lbs. The K'Tan is the same way, so I'd give it the same timeline as a Moby. Personally, I see both as just NB carriers. If your baby is already 3 months, I'd look for a carrier that will be a comfortable fit longer term. If you like the idea of a wrap (like a Moby) there are a zillion kinds of woven (non-stretchy) wraps out there. There also are different kinds of carriers, but I am a bit wrap-obsessed. Wink

All of this. This is why you don't want to use a moby to do a back wrap, the baby will lean back and the stretch wrap has no support so they can flip out.  So even if they are in the front carry as they get heavy they baby will start to sag and it just makes for an uncomfortable and not very effective carrier. LOL, imagine a bowling ball in a hammock of jersey knit vs a strong woven fabric. The good news is the Moby is a great way to learn to wrap so if you do want to continue wrap you can get a woven like PP said! I have seen a 6 year old in a woven even and my 2 year old can still be in it!

  • I have a k'tan that I have used for my 6 mo. old since birth. I prefer it over the ergo and found my dd (almost 3 now) was too heavy for me to carry after about10 months no matter which carrier I used.
someecards.com - I support Newt Gingrich's idea of colonizing the moon if it'll help me get away from Newt Gingrich.
