Trying to Get Pregnant

XP: Progesterone and Period

Hi everyone,

Hope you had a great weekend.  So I posted the other day that I thought that the Progesterone wasn't helping my LPD.  I still haven't gotten my period and today is 12dpo (improvement!).

So I really don't think I am pregnant, but wondering if those on supplements usually get their period on their own or do you have to stop taking the meds at some point?  At what point to I call to ask my RE?

Thanks!

Re: XP: Progesterone and Period

  • I had to stop taking the Prometrium to get my period.  It came a couple days later.

Does your RE usually have you come in for betas?  I go in on 12dpo for betas.  But you could just POAS instead if you want.   Definitely keep taking the progesterone until you know for sure that you are not pregnant.

    Good luck!!

BTW--- i'm on progesterone suppositories right now.....ick!  Hopefully you lucked out and could take them orally!

I will be having betas next cycle when I start clomid, but for the moment I am just using progesterone supplements (suppositories!).  They haven't been that bad though.

  • You have to stop taking the progesterone in order to get your period.  It's the drop in progesterone that signals your body to shed the uterine lining.

When you are pregnant, your progesterone stays high and prevents your uterus from shedding it's lining... so by continuing to take the supplements, it's preventing your period.
