My fiance and I are trying to conceive and I read you have to be six to ten weeks to get an ultrasound. I was wondering six to ten weeks after ovulation or after a positive hpt test?
Not all doctors will give you a 6-10 week ultrasound. Our insurance covers only one (18-20 anatomy ultrasound) if we want more we have to pay. We can get more if our doctor says there is medical need.
So just bc they do them don't think that you will for sure get one.
This. And there is a lot of debate about how necessary ultrasounds are vs. some risk they may pose to the mother and baby especially, if you know when you ovulated and can calculate your due more accurately. I know the midwives I've interviewed and seen generally only recommend the 20 week ultra sounds, but don't recommend other ultra sounds unless it is medically necessary.

It is an ACOG (American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology) guideline that the only recommended ultrasound is at 20 weeks.
In Canada the first ultrasound is between 12 and 18 weeks I believe. My dr will send me for an earlier one though since I've had a loss and it's covered by my provincial health care.

Generally we have a 12 week dating u/s in Canada and an 18 week anatomy scan. Many people only get one u/s around 18 weeks.
I just rejoined the board after a miscarriage, but i didn't even have my first appointment until I was 9 weeks along, which is normal. I had an early ultrasound only because I had some spotting, which is how they discovered the blighted ovum. Had I not been spotting, the first ultrasound would have been around 18 weeks. If this would be your first pregnancy, I doubt they'll do one sooner unless you're having complications.
Thank you everyone. I only said 6 to 10 weeks because that is what the internet says. I know my sister had one at 11 weeks and my best friend had one at 8 weeks and one at 10 weeks. (Two children) She also doesn't have insurance. I was just curious, because my fiance wants to tell his mother with an ultrasound.
