it feels like, for me at least, if you place your hand over your belly and tap down each finger at a time. like in a wave motion. do you know what I mean? Like you see in movies how teachers tap their fingernails on the table showing anticipation or frustration? its like that but not fingernails...and not hard. its like taps.
i was getting crazy muscle spasms and I asked my doc and she said that was actual muscle spasms from my muscles stretching. and the baby (at this point) isnt big enough to make that much of a noticeable thud. the finger tapping like I described above my doc said IS the baby.
I notice it most when I'm driving or sitting down for more than 30min...especially at night time or hanging on the couch.
To me it just felt like gas much lower than my stomach, like when your body processes some gnarly food. I did get my first major kick a couple nights ago, which startled me!
Try laying on your stomach and relax. It usually happens when you don't expect it to.

To me it feels likE slow bursting bubbles. Plop, plop. I mostly feel the baby when I lay down and relax. I can't wait to feel the definite kicks and for my husband to feel to it too.
At first I was feeling flutters. Then for like 3 days a couple weeks ago I was having that exact feeling of like a muscle twitch or a spasm. And now I feel little thumps. But twice now I've felt really hard thumps that have actually made me jump! I'm assuming they're kicks. When I put my hand on my lower abdomen when I'm relaxing I can feeling like a rolling sensation in there too. I don't know what the twitching feeling is though....
My first few sensations felt exactly like an eyelid twitch in my lower-left abdomen. Granted, location depends upon where the baby is, but it definitely felt like a twitch or small muscle spasm.
Later, it turned into something more like light thumps.
I felt my first nudge on Saturday and once again last night. When I'm laying down on the couch it feels like a little poke of some sort. But I've only felt it twice. I hope it was the baby!
that's more or less how it feels for me. When my baby moves it feels like light cramping....kind of like spasming, except it doesn't feel like muscles contracting. It feels like, I don't know, like someone is playing the piano on the inside of my lower abdomen and the hammers are lightly hitting my abdominal wall.
Your description sounds like the baby to me.
Two things that seem to get my kid rocking 1) loud music or noise 2) grapefruit juice (I've heard orange juice triggers lots of kicking etc. as well).

Thumping, tapping, or flicking from the inside.
Sometimes rolling, or tightening when LO is moving, but not necessarily kicking
