I went into preterm labor at 31 weeks. They did a fetal fibronectin test (preterm labor swab test) then and it was positive. I stayed in the hospital for three days and they slowed contractions with Magnesium. That was three weeks ago. Yesterday, I went back to the hospital for contractions 1-2 minutes apart (with increasing intensity). They gave me two shots to slow contractions and another fetal fibronectin test, which came back negative. The nurse told me that since it came back negative, that there is a 99.9% chance that I will not go into labor within the next two weeks. Just wondering if anyone else has been told this and if it has been true/false for you. TIA
Re: Fetal Fibronectin test negative?
I've had to do FFN test with both pregnancies due to pre-term labor issues. My doctor always said the same as your nurse with the negative. My Dr. said that if the test is positive they don't really know what that means.
With that said, with my first pregnancy I started FFN test at 28 weeks and didn't deliver till 38 weeks. I never had a positive FFN.
This pregnancy I am currently 36 weeks and never had a positive FFN.
Good luck!
Yes, I was told the same - I went into preterm labor at 30 weeks, and had the shots and was hospitalized to stop the contractions, as well as the test every 2 weeks, which came back negative, until I hit 36 weeks (I've had actual contractions, not BH ever since). I'm just over 37 weeks, and our LO is still in there!
My OB told me that a positive test meant that the "glue" that holds your cervix together and firm has started to release, which means you can start to dilate and increase your chances of labor.
Went into PTL at 30 weeks, I'm now 32 weeks exactly. Had that test and it came back negative (thank you Jesus! haha. I would had to be flown out to a dif city.)
About 11 days after the test I went in with contractions again but they stopped on their own and I had no further progress.
