We just got home today with our beautiful baby girl!
DH & I went in Tuesday night @ 5pm. They started me on the cervidal (sp?) at about 6pm. Then at 6am on Wednesday they took it out & started pitocin at 7am & I was 1cm. I apparently had been having contractions (some pretty big) before then but all I felt were slight cramping. Once the pitocin started, I started to feel them a little more but it wasn't bad. At 11am I was only 2cm & the doctor broke my water to get things going. And boy did that make the pain come on! Which unfortunately it was back labor. I wasn't handling it very well, By about 1pm there wasn't any rest time in between the contractions & by 1:30 I had the epidural. It was no where near as bad as I thought it would be. I mostly just wanted to be able to sleep & I did. But the epi made me start shaking.
At about 5pm or so the doctor checked me again & I was about 3 - 4cm. The nurse was hopeful that I'd be able to deliver vaginally since I was having at least some progress, even though it would probably take a few more hours. Then around 8:30 the doctor checked. Nothing had changed. And apparently the baby wasn't handling the contractions very well. I guess her heart rate was dropping after every contraction. He wasn't sure as to why, but thought it could be the placenta not giving her enough oxygen. He decided the best thing to do was a c-section. I'll admit, I cried. I knew I was a high risk for a c-section but was still upset. Plus DH had run home to shower & such so he wasn't there when the doctor told me. My mom had to call & tell our roommate to tell DH to hurry to the hospital for the c-section. The doctor stopped the pitocin & put me on oxygen. And the baby improved, thankfully. They prepped me for the c-section & I could not stop shaking.
I was wheeled into the OR, strapped down my arms, put the oxygen thing on my nose & put up the screen. DH came in & sat next to my head (but he was able to see everything during the c-section, which I was surprised). My shoulders hurt like crazy & it didn't help that I was still shaking. I hated the shaking. Plus my hands were freezing. They started the c-section. Apparently the very first thing they saw of the baby was her ear. They got her out & the cord was wrapped around her neck twice. Which would explain why she wasn't doing good with the contractions. She was so big, everyone was shocked! She weighed 9lbs, 5oz & 22in long! Even the doctor thought she would only be 6 or 7. He said, "That's the biggest vegetarian baby I've ever seen!" DH told me to look over to the side, where the table was when they were cleaning her up. The first thing I said was, "OMG look at that head! I'm so happy I didn't have to push her out!" Even the nurses told me I wouldn't have been able to deliver her.
Crazy thing is I managed to go through the entire pregnancy without getting sick. Then I threw up twice in the OR. Go figure!
DH & I couldn't be happier with our little girl. And he is absolutely in love with her. Recovery has been pretty good so far. My incision just started hurting today. All the nurses kept saying how good I've been doing. But unfortunately I still have the darn PUPPS. I'll be scheduling an appointment with a dermatologist to get something for it.
Good luck to anyone that left to have their LO!
