Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Frozen breast milk = spoiled :(

I stopped pumping a few weeks ago because DH and I calculated that i'd have enough breast milk for LO to have half breast milk/half formula until he was a year old (assuming he won't drink more than 6 ounces/feeding).  I went out to the deep freezer yesterday to unthaw more milk and the deep freezer was off.  It somehow got unplugged.  I sobbed.  All the hard work for NOTHING!  I got home from work the next morning and there was NINE huge black garbage bags full of breast milk sitting on the curb.  I'm still pissed.  Next baby, i'm getting an alarm on my freezer.  The worst part...when I told DH over the phone he said "oh no, we lost all of our frozen pizza's" trying to cheer me up...yea wrong idea lol

  • I'm so sorry! How devastating! If you wanted to try it, you can pump/nurse to try and relactate. If you go to kellymom.com and search "relactation," you'll find info on it. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

  • Thanks girls.  It is very upsetting to me because I always felt like pumping took time away from my baby.  I knew I wanted to provide breast milk for him so I did it for his benefit but hated being stuck to a pump all day (it seemed).  I was lucky in the fact that I was able to pump every 2 hrs while he was in the NICU and save a lot of milk bc he was eating less than a half an ounce per feeding.  I'm still frustrated.  I worked hard for that milk like everyone else does and I hated doing it.  I have considered trying again but I think i'd hold onto this frustration longer if I had to pump again.  My husband said to just let it go and we will move forward.  I always wanted to nurse my son but since he was so small his oxygen would drop every time I nursed him in the hospital.  I think that's another reason why I hated pumping so much.  It's not what I wanted to do, but glad that I was able to provide him the breast milk in some way shape or form.  Thanks for listening.

  • I'm sorry you went through all that. Just remember you worked your a$$ off to give him the best and it's great he had your milk for as long as he did. ((Hugs))

  • So sorry. And I would have probably slapped DH with his remark about pizza, not funny at all. You still did a tremendous thing to give your LO bf as long as you did, so try to focus on that.

  • I'm SO SO sorry!! I completely understand how you feel. I had 50 bags of milk frozen in my freezer and last week the freezer broke in the middle of the night and I lost them all. I had been stocking up bc I return to work next week and was hoping that would help the transition. I cried for days.

Not much I can say except, I feel for you!!

  • Ugh!  So sorry to hear this - I totally understand the pain and torture you went through to get all that precious milk.  With DS, I found out about 5 months into pumping religiously that I have excess lipase, which makes thawed out milk stink like rotten soap.  Since it isn't harmful to the baby, we tried giving it to him anyway but he wanted nothing to do with it.  I had to throw away about 600 oz. of milk.  It was probably the most depressing days of my life.
