Well the bloody show began early Thursday morning and I had few very irregular contractions during the day Thursday, but nothing serious or painful. I went to my regularly scheduled OB appt on Friday afternoon where I was still only 1 cm and 'very soft' which is what it has been for about a month. He said the babies head was still a bit high, but she is head down, though a bit posterior. We scheduled an induction for a week from today (today is her due date) and I was sent on my merry way with him assuring me that he thinks she will come before the end of the upcoming week.
Fast forward to last night. I walked the mall for about an hour, during which I was getting some regular contractions about 5 min apart. When we began driving home, however they decreased down to about 1 per hour and not very uncomfortable. I laid down to go to sleep at about midnight and was awoken at 2:30AM with definite contractions, 5 min apart, for 1 min, for over an hour...so we decided to head to L&D as that was the instruction from my OB last week on timing. They hooked me up and said that they were contractions and they were 5-6 min apart, but I was still only 1-2 and 60% with no progress. Head was still 'floating' when touched. The nurse sent us home after an hours walk of the hospital with no progress again assuring us that it was early labor and I would likely be back in 12-24 hours. Well.....now the contractions have completely stopped

It is so frustrating to be teased like this....crossing our fingers its starts up again soon and gets real. I'm starting to worry her head is never going to engage enough to dilate.
Re: Sent home :( (sorry....long venting)
I feel your pain. I had off and on labor like that for 2 weeks with DS--in spite of his head being at -1 for a month, so don't worry about the head!
I am now on day 8 of stop and start contractions, only this time LO is breech. I don't even want to go into labor because if I can make until Tuesday, I'll have external cephalic version and induction. I have heard it called "prodromal" labor. It's very exhausting. I take benadryl at night so I can sleep through the contractions.
FX your baby comes soon.
