on thursday i posted about having some BH contractions, pretty frequently, like 16 or 17 within an hour or so. the midwives never actually got back to me, but they seemed to get less frequent so i just ended up going to bed.
on friday while i was at work, during my 3rd massage of the day, the contractions started up again, and there was this uncomfortable downward pressure i had, especially while standing, even though when i was sitting it would come and go too. and where my cervix is got really sore every time my stomach would tighten. so i called them again, and they got me in to be checked out (and apologized for not getting back to me). we ended up staying the night in the birthplace because i had a few stronger, more regular contractions that lasted around a minute or so, and when the midwife checked my cervix she said it was shortened :
they did a fetal fibronectin test, that came back negative, and no infections were found, so they gave me a steroid shot and ordered an ultrasound for the morning.
ETA: forgot to add that i was still having contractions this morning according to the monitor, they called it irritation contractions. so for whatever reason my uterus is irritated? wish i had an answer for why that would be, but once again at least everything is looking good!
after a sleepless night we had the ultrasound and everything was looking perfect:) cervix is closed & 4cm long. and baby is cute as ever! they are having me come back tomorrow morning for the second steroid shot, just in case baby comes early further along. she told me that i'll just be one of those women who have regular contractions, but most likely won't end up in PTL. i guess we are all so different, it's just good to know what is normal for me so i don't have to worry ![]()
hope you all are doing well & having a great summer weekend!

Re: update from thursday- scary night!
I would've been frustrated that they didn't get back to you earlier, but yay for good news! I hope you keep your little one cooking a while longer!

Thank goodness Baby is staying in for a while longer
I'm with you on the irritated uterus. It's super fun. We should have a siggy pic for it lol!
Glad to hear all is well. Sounds like the midwife was incorrect about the shortened cervix since your ultrasound showed it at 4cm, thats about as good (long) as it gets. So thats great. Hopefully your uterus just stays irritable. Hydrate like crazy, that helps tremendously!

thanks everyone! i had never heard of irritation contractions either, so it's good to know that i'm not alone!
as far as misdiagnosing the short cervix, either the baby moved during the night which allowed it to lengthen again, or it was explained to me that sometimes part of the cervix is actually inside the uterus, which you wouldn't be able to feel manually. so the ultrasound was the definite diagnosis:)
I have an irritable uterus as well and my previous babies were preterm. Be very careful bc my water broke at home even after getting shots/meds to calm my uterus.
that's great you got the steroid shot for LO. GL!
